Apparently all you need to do to win an Oscar is lose an obscene amount of weight for a role.

Have you seen Dallas Buyer's Club?

Watched it last night in lieu of the Oscars.  It was a good movie.  I just didn't think he gave that great a performance other than losing a crap ton of weight.  Now if he won because everyone else sucked this year, then okay.

I wouldn't say everyone sucked but I thought McConaughey was easily the best of what I saw.  The only one  I didn't see was 12 Years a Slave.

oscar Dern was great in Nebraska and I wouldn't have been surprised if he had won either.

Do you think his acting was comparable to something like Denzel/Alonso in Training Day?

It's been a while since I saw Training Day so I couldn't say they were comparable or not.

I'm pretty sure the only nominee I have seen was Gatsby, and it was only for costumes or something.

Do you watch movies? McConny was like, 100x times better in Dallas Buyers Club than Denzel was in Training Day. I'm not exaggerating or goEMAWing, that is absolutely true.

Denzel's performance in TD is very overrated I'd say. He was good but it wasn't anything spectacular.

it seems awesome because of who he was partnered with.

I didn't think Denzel's TD performance was great, but I did think it was much better than the DBC performance that also won an Oscar.  I specifically picked that performance over others that I absolutely thought deserved the award, like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man.

That's interesting you say that, because in my review of Dallas Buyers Club in the movie thread, I said him and Leto should win Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. So if you're argument is that no one "absolutely thought they deserved" the award, you're wrong because I did. And if you're argument is that you're really good at watching movies and deciding who is giving a good/great performance and who is not, well there's just not a lot of evidence for that argument right now.

I think Jack Black was robbed in 2012 (would have been 2013 Oscars I guess). His performance in Bernie was phenomenal.

I'm binge watching a bunch of Best Picture nominated movies from the past decade. I'll get together with Trim on a blog post soon.

One of my friends hosts an Oscar party every year, with the categories and you choose who wins, the one who has the most categories right at the end of the night is the winner. Makes watching the oscar's infinitely better with something on the line (and I generally don't care about them at all)
