I'd like to think that Chris Rock didn't know she has alopecia and how she feels about it, that's a pretty rough ridin' awful joke and he's way too good of a comedian for that cheap trick. I felt awful for her, she looked like she was going to cry when he told it.

Gotta say though, he ate that slap like a champ

Lmao, what a champ Rock is, and what a bitch Will Smith is. That’s a cowardly rough ridin' move to do that.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

You're going to have to explain how walking up to someone face to face and slapping that person, is cowardly. I mean it can be a lot of things to a lot of people but I'm not seeing cowardly.

I'm really surprised it happened on the show. Would have thought it could have been handled backstage. I can only assume Will being the butt of internet jokes about Jada the last 5 years finally made him go for it, only being 10 ft from Chris.
Also why did he slap and not punch the F outta him?
Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.

closed fists used to always result in DQ's (which is why the nature boy relied on his iconic knife edge chops) but officials have been pretty lax about it since the mid-90s or so.  now closed fists are universally accepted as a legal move.

I think it was seeing her and how she reacted to the joke that made him snap.

Just proves that Will is a little bitch, honestly. There’s no honor is what he did.

What’s the security like at this thing? I don’t think Rock or anyone else thought Will was going to slap anyone when he got on stage.

just got caught up on what happened, chris handled everything really well
that joke was dumb and he deserved to get slapped for telling such a bad joke, but not there and not because it was about will’s wife.  just a stupid joke.  unfortunate incident that happened in front of too many people.

There's about a 0% chance Chris Rock was expecting to be hit in that situation. Pretend punch, confrontation, push maybe but no SANE person does THAT with 10M people watching live worldwide and countless others on social media. This makes Kanye look tame.

It's a shame that this overshadowed Will's only Oscar win. I'm actually pretty disappointed that the Academy allowed Will to stay in the theater and accept the Oscar. He should have been escorted out of the building, immediately.

For the guy who played Ali, Smith's slaps are as soft as his raps. 5'10, 175lb soaking wet 57 year old Chris Rock was barely phased by that unexpected assault.

Next time take that mess backstage, and then publicly shame Rock for his poor tasted joke. Will better be prepared to have every opportunist come at him when he goes out in public, because they'll be baiting him into a chance to sue.

i could understand Will's reaction a little more if Rock had made a joke about their relationship where it was directed at both of them, but it was a joke directly about Jada, who is famous and a star in her own right.

I was in my fair share of fights as a stupid adolescent, so I'm not exactly clutching my pearls over why he did it. I just can't believe he walked up on stage at the Oscars and did it in front of the entire world.

It seems a little attention whore-y to me, but hey maybe that was the point. People will probably eventually forget why Will even did it in the first place. Less attention on his wife than if he just publicly criticized Rock.

Listening to the clip it seemed like a total throwaway line. Completely forgettable but for what followed.

I think we all know that will smith’s bitch ass would not have walked onto the stage if the person standing there was the rock Duane Johnson and not Chris rock the comedian. The fresh prince is quite the tough guy though when someone is half a foot shorter and 80 pounds lighter than him.
