Need a concrete insider to explain what's going on here.  Please also explain to me where the "shade trees" will be planted.

They are pouring in strips to allow for forming of the individual panels to reduce cracking.   This is often done in large areas of exterior concrete.

The squares likely will be either pavers or stamped/colored concrete.

I'll be given a tour of the athletic facilities on July 25, let me know if there is anything in particular you'd like me to ask or take photos of.

Was hoping the squares would be tree planters.

-are plans to move the south concourse concession "tents" back to the OOD?
-ribbon boards?
-backlighting behind prominent text and powercats on the castle?
-limestone wall?
-landscaping?  what will replace dirt NW corner - where are "shade trees" going on south concourse

I think Currie basically said they were leaving the option open to put concessions in the South EZ in the  youtube a few posts above.

I think he said they'd explore the traffic pattern in the south concourse and then decide whether to put bathrooms under the OOD windows.  I didn't hear him say anything about concessions.

I was thinking instead of video boards?  yep, more powercats.  maybe get rid of the hot dogs at the concession stands and just hand out meat powercats instead, w/ purple mustard.

How's about slathering some giant purple powercats at the end of every parking row and periodically down the row in our new Black Sea?

If they don't move the concession tents back, it will be highly dumb.

I like. Still not sold on the purple powercats, tho. Limestone etching would have been cooler.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Such a spectacular door that allows athletes to go between Vanier and the training table

I wonder if seniors get a key?   :crossfingers:

The squares are frames for tree grates  :crossfingers: , you can see the angled rebar attached to the frames:

Looks like they are installing bands of standard gray concrete and colored concrete (you can see the welded wire mesh in the other alternating bands).

If they plant a little grove in that southeast corner, that is going to be spectacular. A logistical nightmare, but spectacular.

They are probably just forms for inlay pavers or whatever. Hoping for trees though.

I mean Currie said it was going to be a picnic area with shade trees.  Guessing some picnic tables with some nice trees.  Should really spruce up that end of the stadium.

it's going to be hard at first.  I won't lie to you.  trees can be tough to navigate around.  I wouldn't expect perfection at first.  but if this fanbase can commit itself to learning to walk through trees, and get just a little bit better at it, every single game, then we will have reached our goal.
