I really can't wrap my head around all the tree butt hurt, and I pretty much melted down about the end zone if death turf being slightly off color.

I mostly just find the stupidity of the "trees would be a nightmare" explanation humorous.

Since you clearly have access to all of the same info as the architects and site planners, and have similar background, training and expertise as well, I place extra value on your evaluation of the decision. Thanks for your input!

Captain, maybe wrong approach on this one.

Sorry, just tired of hearing about it. Not sure why some people can't just let it go and assume smart people made an informed decision.

Only if ADJC lets them.  (See BPF)

CC, love ya man, but I disagree with the decision, which I suspect was also influenced by avoiding possibly having to relocate some parking spots in a high value parking spot (donor) location.

While the WSC will be a fantastic new facility, the dearth of landscaping still detracts from the collegial feel of the athletic complex, and there's plenty of ways to improve the landscaping without impacting parking, egress/ingress and tailgating experience in a significant way.

Never said there won't be landscaping, or even that there wouldn't be trees anywhere. Just that the large trees with planter boxes won't be in a major pedestrian and vehicle trafficway. Not sure why this is such a controversial event...

We can all agree our campus is beautiful because of, in large part, the trees.  Take away the trees and, well, our campus is quite ugly.

Apply the same logic to WSC.  Beautiful building.  Ugly site.

And   at CC calling out Wabash.

not sure if serious  :dubious:

i'm also not sure how people can't understand that some are kinda bummed. it's like we just built a two million dollar dream house on the lake with a swimming pool and indoor basketball court but then installed formica countertops in the kitchen. that's gonna bother some people. also, the analogy ball is now in you court zacker. the two million dollar house indoor one that is. boom.

My parents live near a house with an above ground pool.  Strange, because the house is ~3500sqft, new construction, featuring a terra cotta roof, which seems pretty dumb in a place like KC.  I still imagine the architect and builder were relatively smart people though.

Your analogy is flawed. This is not about cost saving or choosing inferior product. Trees have not been in the plan for out front of the building for a looooong time. Was an effort to improve the traffic flow out there, which there is expected to be an increase amount of with the tailgate terrace.

Yes, trees would look nice out there, not arguing that. I think the decision was that helping a congested entryway etc was important. You can disagree with that, but quit acting like this is some failure in the effort to save a couple thousand bucks in an $80M project.

CC, are we still going to have the recessed areas between the powercat columns, or are they making the entire front of the building flat as well because the columns sticking out would impede pedestrian and vehicle traffic?

Those things sticking out are where the elevators to the tailgate terrace are as well as service access to some of the concession/ticket areas

Ok...here is where I'm at now:

No trees...sucks.  However it's something that can easily be done in the future.  I.E. Phase 7 is massive landscape phase with super cool trees, gardens, fountains, etc.  I mean maybe they are holding off on trees because they will be in the way of the machinery that is needed for Phase 4, 5, and 6!

I think thats it guys.....holding off on trees until Phase 7.  We need to be better at forward-thinking.

My vote is still for eff the trees and put in water fountain. Purple water optional. Lights in water mandatory.

Well, I like them. They look nice. I guess I just don't understand why they couldn't at least put some bushes within those recesses, though, since foot and vehicle traffic is going to have to be in front of the columns.

you're right. flawed analogy. zacker wins this round. i do like the part where i did the balls in your court thing though and then kicked it back to the earlier referenced indoor bball court.

i don't think the AD is trying to be cheap having no trees, i just think the beauty of having landscape 365 days a year, outways the foot traffic problem 6 to 7 days a year.

Fair point. Obviously they disagreed. Doesn't make them cheap or incompetent, just different priorities.
