Somewhere in this thread, someone (probably cc) said that all non-square footage improvements (or something like that) would be done this offseason.

Video boards, field walls, sound systems, etc.  If it requires us to actually build a new wing or something, it's out, but all of that aesthetic stuff in Phase 3 will happen now.

yeah

hey captain crap. are they gonna do the limestone wall for next season?

I've come to believe that a "limestone wall" at the BSFS for whatever reason has as much probability of ever happening as me inventing a fully functional time machine or K-State ever winning mythical National Championship.

Some things just aren't meant to be, and ever improving our high schoolesque crumbling concrete and plywood signed shithole of a field wall seen on every television broadcast seems to be one of those things.

Limestone walls seems like the cheapest, fastest, easiest way to make the stadium look loads better. Like doing a tasteful upgrade on rims for the hooptie.

We've been over this before.  I seem to remember someone saying something about foundation issues, maybe a low water table.  Anyway, they said building the foundation for it would be alot more time consuming and costly than you would think.  There's alot more to it than someone just piling up some limestone and grout as if they were building a limestone fence on their property.  For the amount of $$$ it would take, there are better upgrades that could be made first and the $$$ spent would have alot bigger impact on something functional.

I'm not saying I know, just saying I remember this has been discussed and that's what I remember without going back in the thread.

This.

I'm also not saying it's straight up cheap, but from a TV perspective (which is what almost anyone will ever see of our stadium) this is an easy upgrade compared to a lot of other things. Imagine what it would look like with the new pressbox and limestone wall. My lord, it will look fantastic and camera crews will never show the East side (from the outside) again. We'll look really big timey.

:dubious: there's not much required for a foundation for the proposed limestone wall even if the the capacity of the soil is terrible. Want evidence? Have we had to fix any settlement issues with the lower part of the seating bowl or the field...no.

It would still likely require a frost footing, say 24" x 36".     That is, unless the current toe footing at the base of the railing is adequate, but I doubt.

i hope there's a way to build the limestone wall and not kstate0 it up with advertisements.

i doubt very much that our AD would give up the precious revenue those stupid redneck signs provide us, but i wish we could just keep it clean.

I think the only way would be to get a group together that buys up all of the advertising space. Then the group would only use it during times when it is absolutely necessary. Things like FIRE ______ or HIRE GOTTLIEB.

Just install a few elite looking LED boards within the North and South field walls to run advertisements.  Akin to the LED boards courtside in basketball games.  eff me, the advertisement revenue, alone, would pay for the wall.

Limestone is expensive.  expensive to buy and expensive to lay.  If I remember correctly they really wanted to do that project, then we got rid of Kraus and Wefald and it went on the back burner because it was going to be a lot of money that we could use else where to help out athletes.

Cost too much money? We're spending 75 million on a 5 story building, yet a limestone wall 4ft high is "too expensive"?

Yeah, and like surely they'll just do something like a 2" thick facade am I right? Seems like weight/footing/cost in the grand scheme of things wouldn't be all that outrageous.

I think no one in there right mind is asking for a solid limestone wall. A cinder lock wall with a limestone vernier would look very nice and not be kstateo

That's my point. Cinder block is light and a facade wouldn't be all that heavy. Of course I'd prefer concrete instead of cinder block. Either way, I don't see it being a massive undertaking. Right now, there is no good angle of the stadium. The best is field level looking at the east side. That at least gives some appearance of a big stadium. Obvz the new pressbox will be all kinds of tits. Just saying the limestone wall would be a minor way to complete the look (not counting the exterior of the East side).

It will be great when it's all done (wall and West side). Prior to the games they'll show the new pressbox from the outside and then in the game you'll have the imposing east side with the shiny west side and new limestone walls. It'll be glorious.
