Wait so they changed firms based on an article? I have no clue what is going on.

I think that is the takeaway here....

not even kstate is that stupid.

They've become very anti-litigation.  You should threaten to sue OBz, KSU and the whole damn system for that time when he kicked you out of his seat and see what kind of quick settlement you can get.

Dunno about that.  When Prez Schulz was out here he told me they hired a bunch of new in-house attorneys since they could get them on the cheap due to the current total collapse of the legal market.

When you had your personal sitdown with Schulz, did EPAW come up?  Follow up.  How loaded are you?  Last one.  After 10-15 years accumulating even greater wealth will you become a goEMAW benefactor wearing snow leopard shawls over your purple silk crocktail dress and white gloves puffing off a smoking holder?

Big fan.  I'll listen off the air.

1. Unfortunately, EPAW did not come up.  Huge regret. Big missed opportunity.

2.  :kstategrad:

3. Great idea.  Will do at MOAP2.

Wow.  Feel like Answer 3 answered #2 on a completely different level.

What a delightful group of posters we have here!

Iknowrite?

It also helps to have an AD very committed to transparency.

That next e-mailed letter from John is gonna be a long one.

Indeed.  I anticipate it will cover a lot of "bases".

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

So if I'm to understand this correctly, a school of thought exists that essentially says manbeck had a its patterson type moment and accidentally torpedoed a firms bid for the westside project?

I had beers with the lead architect on Wednesday night who had just found out that they won the RFP bid for the West side renovations earlier that day.  He told me what the bid amount was (won’t reveal it now since I’m not sure if it is public information yet and might add some confusion to the overall renovation amount if they aren’t doing everything (based on the amount, if they aren't doing everthing, they are doing at least 80% of it), but I got the impression from him that KSU got a heck of a deal – the down economy means a lot of big construction projects and stadium expansions are on hold, so bids are coming in with very thin margins – these companies just want to work and keep making pay roll until the economy recovers).

I asked him how realistic the chances were that it would happen as originally designed, and he said that it’s “locked in” – no short cuts, no dialing back, no half-baked construction with the ability to add on at a later date.  They have the “green light” for the full project.

CPAHawk, I have no idea what this means for current West side seat and suite owners.  Maybe they won’t be able to get owners/companies to renew and/or fill all of these new suites, but it doesn’t sound like that is stopping Currie from going forward with building it.

Just my two cents from a conversation with one of the guys definitely “in the know” from a construction side of things.

Excerpt from RFQ:
Notice is hereby given for the commencement of the selection process for architectural services for improvements to the LHC Bill Snyder Family Stadium at Kansas State University. Improvements to the stadium complex will continue the ongoing initiative of upgrading and enhancing both fan and student athlete experiences and center around the replacement of the existing west side press box and outdated restroom and concession areas.

This $60 million phase will include a structure providing a ‘‘front-door’’ to the athletic complex befitting the success, pride and tradition of the K-State athletics programs. The scope of work will include the following components:

• Replacement of 1960s era general fan restroom and concessions areas
• Training Table/Dining Hall
• Kitchen/commissary facilities
• Central ticket office
• Concourse and Hall of Fame
• Expanded revenue and suite seating areas
• Modern broadcast, electronic and print media areas
• Safety and security/ADA upgrades

To add to what Fedor posted, the $15 million dollar phase would be for a huge new weightroom and recruit hosting facility.   I am hearing a weightroom on the order of 25,000 plus square feet.

I'm guessing this is the 80%/20% split referred to in that post, so that makes sense.

What doesn't make sense to me is this architect just finding out two days ago that they won the bid.

Where do they plan on putting this $15 million weightroom/hosting facility?  Is this the thing Snyder wants to build across the street with a walking bridge from Vanier?

Also, if that's the case, what in the Hell do they plan on putting in the existing weight room in Vanier?

The turf would probably match somebody went out and cleaned all the snake oil off of it.
