Indiana only has one crane.

Yep, to do what should be done will require like 2 more of what we're putting up now . . . I mean, other schools won't have a prayer in Crane Wars, we'll dominate.
We've got some work to do... Cal had FOUR cranes at their stadium

I thought it was more than one year.  Essentially, I thought it was about 20 months (did they not play last year at an alternate site - I thought I saw a game on TV where they were at the other site and this issue was discussed).

Plus, they had a ton of money to throw around to make sure it could get done (money not an object) and didn't have to deal with potential bad weather for the most part (which can impact what can be done at certain times in Kansas).

Not saying it wasn't amazing what was done.  It is.  And it shows it can be done if you want to make it happen.

A thing like a new Vanier could definitely be done in a year (it would be even easier if lots of stuff was already built in the NW corner (ad even NE) so there is as little trouble as possible impacting the off season (new Weight room, meeting rooms, even a locker room could already be in place).  The only issue is the money to make it happen.

I look at those pictures and I just LOL at our tall-ass weird lights. I mean wtf. When we have badass new lights on our badass press box we're gonna look back on those things and be mortified.

The way those lights were put in, under the diretion of AD Dick Towers was pure KStateO.    The reasoning behind putting 4 towers on one side and 2 on the other was because they didn't want glare for TV (yeah like K-State being put on TV a lot back then).   The reasoning for setting them back so far was to allow for expansion, like poles couldn't be moved.   It just never made any sense at all, and it really doesn't now.

I am hoping that the East Side Lights get taken down in favor of a distributed lighting system like what Musco does, smaller pods, but more of them.    They are lighter weight and probably can be attached directly to the upper deck.

What difference does it make?  Would new lights make our unis look less shitty?

Valid point. I'd like take a second to say that I don't think our unis are shitty, just not totally bitchin' like I would prefer.

The vast majority of college football stadiums do not have good lighting systems.

BCS/AQ conference schools should be required to bring their lighting systems up to NFL standards.   With the kind of money these schools are making there's no excuse not to have that requirement.   K-State re-did all the fixtures on its lights a few years ago and it certainly helped but its still not great by any standard.

how much would it cost to just leave the giant rough ridin' awesome cranes there after this thing is over so we look like badasses constantly

around 40-50k per month.

Really? Seems like you could just buy one and it wouldn't take long for it to be cheaper.

cranes are extremely expensive.   Not sure what kind of crane exactly Seven's employer bought, but I have to believe he is mistaken on the cost.    We bought a used crane 3 years ago similar to this in style, but a little larger and newer, and it was $175k.

The expense of owning a crane is high, they need constant maintenance, re-certification periodically.    With a tower crane, even more so.   Add on the costs of insurance, etc. and for a lot of companies the cost of leasing is better for them.

The new fixtures installed on top of the West Side will put out 4 times the light per fixture as the current ones.  Not sure as to the number of actual number of fixtures, but there should be a heck of an improvement when done.

Scoff all you want kim carnes. When our new lights are in you're going to look back at pictures of our old lights and you're going to LOL/WTF at how small-timey they are.

Cal played all their home games last year at AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants and the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, formerly known as the Emerald Bowl.  They don't really have to deal with bad weather but they had their own challenges to overcome (stadium has to be able to withstand earthquakes since it's on a fault line, dirty hippies protesting the construction).  Also Cal doesn't have a ton of money.

just clicked the webcam and saw the team streaming up the stairs in the SW corner of the stadium.  Somewhere in that screenshot, Arthur Brown was in the same frame as the Grizzly Bear.

North tower crane assembly has started. Should end up being a little bit taller than the south crane.

the new pressbox is going to be approximately the exact same height as the east side and the proposed restaurant/hotel would be in the southwest corner and would more/less connect the pressbox to bramlage. that's if it ever ends up happening, which sounds like it's far from 100%.
