It's also possible to stretch the field and air it out without the majority of your play calls being passes.

if we're not airing it out with AM we're probably not going to air it out with AJ. which is really discouraging. because we need to recruit so many more wr's than rb's, and the difference in skill level between wr is way wider than rb.

We are absolutely going to air it out with AJ. If we don’t he will find a team who will. It’s the reason we got Andre Davis and any chance we have of flipping Manning.

i'm hopeful that we will but I wouldn't say that we're "absolutely" going to change our offense from majority run to majority pass over the course of a single summer
We have a good running QB who built a legacy at NU for turning it over and a Heisman candidate RB. It would be malpractice not to call a majority of runs with what we have.

right but this suggests that our coaches simply select an offense that matches the skillset on the roster each summer vs recruiting players that match their preferred offensive scheme. its definitely the latter. AM and Deuce aren't succeeding at KSU because we decided to not be Oregon for a season, they're succeeding because our system matches them (and they're good).

I guess my concern is that even if we adjusted our current offensive scheme it won't be a complete match with AJ's skillset and he might struggle or risk injury from being ran into the defensive line over and over

I don't think "airing it out" necessarily requires "majority passing" when it comes to being an attractive destination to wide receivers. More importantly, I don't think you can see how things are with AM and assume AJ will be the same.

Things could certainly change but 9AM is a 5th year QB with proven passing numbers at the P5 level.  This isn't Will Howard back there throwing the ball.

Part of my concern is that I don't know that Klein's career has ever put him in touch with a great passing offense.  I think we're looking at "effective" as the ceiling.

We are going to try to pound the run game with our stable of quality RB’s and then when teams cheat up to stop it punish them over the top with our play action passing game. We have landed two nice crops of TE’s in 2022 and 2023 but the WR piece is really the missing piece. I’m sure Avery will pull it down and scramble if the defense gives it to him but no way we run him on designed runs more than like once or twice a game. I’d rather sacrifice 2023 to get him 12 live games than scratch out 6 wins with Howard and go to the pinstripe bowl.

Lands the best WR prospect in probably the last 5+ years and still very well might snag Manning but he needs to go

Thad Ward is not responsible for our wide receiver room being in the shape it is in right now. He is a major improvement on the recruiting trail and in the Kansas City area. I think he’s doing a pretty good job coaching as well. You can only do so much with the hand you’re dealt until the next draw comes around.

I'm just bored with average to below average WR talent. When your best WR is a former walk on transfer from another school, something has to change, right? Is Andre really that good? He's 85th in his WR class.

I'll be honest, I don't follow position coaches and didn't even know this guy was new.

Jason Ray was the WR coach that didn’t recruit any WR’s.  They demoted him to TE’s and Messingham didn’t recruit any WR’s the next year either.  Both were fired. Ward got us Davis and damn near had Manning, and still might get him. I’m not sure if the ole miss transfer we got will be any good but he got him too. I have a lot of confidence in Ward moving forward, not much he can do about the failures of the past.

If Jeremiyah Love commits to Notre Dame before Edwards, does that take Edwards spot?

Or would they really take 3 running backs in this class.

This year the rb depth chart for 2022 (ND) has 2 freshman and 2 sophomores.  Talk about the rich getting richer.
