Way to shut down the borders Bill!!

Being serious here.  Why is there a thought that schools should be able to "shut down the borders" and get, in our case, "the Kansas kids?"

Do people think that 17-year-olds have state pride or something?  There's a handful of possible economic/geographic reasons I can see for some kids wanting to stay close to home, but if I'm a recruit, I don't give a eff about going to the state school.  Give me good weather and fancy stuff.

I’m not really saying anything that isn’t known nor am I disagreeing with you, but there was a point in time where we did a better job of landing talented kids in KS.  It was in the 90’s , before the interwebs and recruiting sites really took off, and when OU and OSU were just awful.  For example, off the top of my head,  guys like Biesel, Rashaad Washington, Lamar Chapman, Simoneau, John McGraw, the Ochs family from HS’s and Jeff Kelly from CC’s (I know I’m spelling half their names wrong)…I’m not sure if they were coming up right now if they all go to KSU.  Specifically, the guys in south/central KS.  We “locked down” borders because we were the best, regional alternative.  We simply aren’t now.  We’re third.  Kids shouldn’t stay because of state pride, they should stay because ksu has recruiters that are good enough to get them to stay.  KSU does not.

Very surprised by this level headed response.  We aren't the top choice now and that's why we are losing kids where we once did not.  OSU now has state of the art facilities that we aren't going to be able to match (not many schools will) and they are a short drive from most KS kids.  They have a great program and are certainly a "new", sexy power.  It will be difficult to compete with them from a recruiting standpoint.  Can we do better?  Yes, but we have formidable competition that we didn't have 10-15 years ago and we are going to lose some kids to them.

what is so hard to understand about this? OSU has badass uni's, one for every day of the week, and ipads and widescreen tv's in every locker, and a 300 million dollar football dorm facility with a hot tub in every suite. That's about 80% of the reason he went. If we had badass recruiters which we don't he MIGHT have stayed, but obvioiusly are recruiters weren't terrible because we made his final 2.

Athletic housing is not something I've followed very closely, because for years "athletic dorms" had been shut down, but now schools are working around that with the mix and match.  OU is basically building a "football dorm" has OSU done the same thing?   Where do players at K-State live, why wouldn't they be looking to have athletes live in Jardine after $100 million in renovations, plus it will be extremely efficent once the training table is built.

I know that Housing is going to be doing a bunch of renovations to the food centers, and they're talking about building a new dorm.

We're Kstate, we care to much about EVERYONE and not just athletes, thats why athletes dont live in Jardine. Thats why we will never bring a crystal football home.
And yes KSU is expecting to rennovate every dorm i believe, and possibley put a new one up, which is much needed.

Why couldn't we offer ourselves up to Nike to do whatever crazy thing they want to do?  Maybe they won't want to set up some sort of OSU type of deal, but our color combos could create some great looking uniforms.  Why can't we give Nike creative control over that?  The basketball uniforms look fantastic; why wouldn't all black football uniforms look amazing?  Black helmets?  White helmets, etc.?

Why can't we put more flat screens in our locker room?  Why can't every play have an iPod or iPad in their locker?  Are we really that cheap that we can't spend $500 bucks and put an iPod and a Bose docking station in each locker?

I thought all of the athletes were in Jardine if they didn't choose to live elsewhere?  If they aren't, why not?  It's not like Jardine isn't our brand new housing facility THAT'S RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO THE ATHLETIC COMPLEX.

I swear to God...it's the stuff like this that just ticks me off.  For a program and athletic department that micromanage everything to death, we can't do the simple, relatively inexpensive things to promote success.

One would like to think that they'll start to migrate players to Jardine once the training table is built.

Snyder is too old school on the other stuff.

Also, what will never help our recruiting cause is the fact that when we re-hired bill, we said he was here to “calm the waters” and he’s made many points since that time about not wanting to do this for very much longer.  This was one (of many) reasons I thought bringing him back was incredibly misguided.  He needs to come out and say “I’m going to be here until I die”.  Whether he means it or not.  This removes, at least in part, the notion in recruiting that “he won’t be there when you’re a senior/junior”.

why can't we just have a donor give $300M to the athletic department with the understanding that it is to be used to build a winning football program?  it's really not that hard to figure out people.  Can we make a few improvements to spruce things up a bit?  Sure.  Can we compete with OSU, OU, UT from a "cool shiny stuff" stand point?  No rough ridin' way.

"Calming the waters" now means forcing Currie out. If he is committed to that promise, he will not leave until Currie is gone.

I would like to think that our football program is at least profitable enough to find a living quarters for the football team and put a rough ridin' hot tub in every room. JFC, football facilities aside, how hard do you think any recruit with options laughs when OB shows him a dorm room in Haymaker Hall and tells him that he will be living there?

Irony considering the obvious joy in calories the former "watcher" took.

Like 10,000 spoons with which to eat a shitload of free ice cream unless you're a football player.

Since substantial completion of T. Boone Pickens Stadium OSU is: 41-11

But according to the respects, its all style over substance.

Well, that substance is .788 football over 4 seaons, a Big 12 Title and a BCS Bowl Championship Trophy.

Once we get those suites and that press box we will totally be able to beat out oSu for in-state recruits.  This is why we need Currie fellars, $25 million in cold hard cash is what gets things done.  By phase 6 we will have the state of KS on LOCK.
