UPDATE: Our own Jason King reported yesterday that Valparaiso coach (and hero) Bryce Drew interviewed for the Mississippi State job on Monday in Atlanta. It may be too soon to call Drew the absolute favorite, however.
King also indicated that Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne is the other top candidate to replace longtime coach Rick Stansbury. Milwaukee coach Rob Jeter, a name that was linked to the job briefly on Monday night (thanks largely to Twitter), is "not expected to get the job" according to King.

According to this report yesterday by Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com, Murray State coach Steve Prohm is Mississippi State's primary target to fill its coaching vacancy.
"Prohm would be interested in the Mississippi State opening for at least two obvious reasons -- prestige and millions of dollars," wrote Parrish. "Combine those things with the fact that he grew up in Georgia and graduated from Alabama, and it's simple to see why the opportunity to coach in the SEC is intriguing. ..."
Along with Prohm, the Bulldogs also have reached out to Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton, who interviewed for the Nebraska opening on Tuesday.
