If you personally watched the last days of Gaudio at WF like I did . . . you would run away.

Even when Currie hires some guy that we have either never heard of or are disappointed in, I will still suspect that he is simply a two year patch in a leaky boat that will just have to hold until our new elite yacht is finished and ready to cruise party cove.

Can we add Boyle to the mid group, if Undes is kept on as assistant HC?  Greenwalt would also need to stay and even given strong consideration.

NO!  I HATE HIM!  :curse:

No. We aren't going to tell a coach who his assistants have to be unless we get Pearl and have to find somebody to go out and recruit for him for 2 years.

I am with Rusty and I am proud that he has taken on a tactic that I prefer myself and that is keep hammering on something until it is a bloody pulp.

No issue with Pearl can not be overcome.

Even then, you let pearl hire his guys.  I mean, why hire pearl if you don't bring in his pre-planned group of against-regs-all-star-gathering assistants?  Would be a little silly to do so.

It's going to be Underwood or Jank, or someone we've never heard of.

I guess.  I don't want Jank.  I don't think that underwood is a complete disaster short term but I think he'll have a very hard time recruiting.  I don't doubt he is a solid x/o guy.

I guess the patch can't be a guy that has ties.  Currie would know that he couldn't axe Undy 2 yrs in w/o very good reason.  Damn it.

I know they flamed out every year, what is the CV on why it happened.  Does he have something in common with Frank or did his talent all start to think about the league?

Thinking we can't/won't make a run at Pearl because of the Slow Claws is the small-timey way of doing things that makes KSU KSU.  That's just an excuse for all the Townie-Squawks to hide behind.  It's like the NCAA version of Fake Patty's Day to them.

Not to mention that after the 2 years are up, Pearl might have more appealing suitors than Kansas State.

I would guess Scott Sutton gets a look too if he's interested at all :(

The pearl patch theory might be the dumbest thing ever. We either make a play for him now or we never get him.

How about Antigua?
Pros:
1. Globetrotter
2. Nicknamed the Hurricane
3. Best recruiter in the world
4. 6 foot 7
5. Looks good in Purple
6. Already a wildcat
Cons:
1. will probably cost quite a bit.
2. Little to no head coaching experience

k-state is rolling a hot dice right now and must keep taking chances if it hopes to continue its ascension to basketball dominance.

six years ago, tim weiser took a chance on bob huggins, a hire that got ripped by a bunch of dinosaur writers like mike decourcy of the sporting news. but huggins succeeded. then, after huggins bailed, k-state went with an unproven, self-important douchebag named frank martin who, turns out, is actually an above average coach. well, actually, closer to mediocre. either way, martin piggybacked off huggins' success and kept the program afloat.

but while frank was verbally assaulting his players, running them off, screaming and setting stuff on fire, the great john currie was in the backdrop doing god's work. he got k-state out of its financial hole. he got money for facilities. he established trust with high money donors. and so on.

because of john currie, k-state basketball is back. but now he must identify a new head men's basketball coach to take over this top 10 20 35 40 50 program.

should he target someone ordinary? heck no. an ordinary coach would not be a good fit. should he target a safe hire? no again.

k-state must hire someone great.

k-state must hire jay bilas.

bilas himself admitted in a recent interview that he's been offered multiple head coaching jobs and even came awfully close to accepting one. gee, i wonder why schools are offering jay bilas coaching jobs?

i wonder if it has anything to do with ...

-bilas being coached by the game's greatest coach, mike kryzewsewsewki?
-bilas being perhaps the most recognizable college basketball figure outside of dick vitale and the aforementioned mike kryzewsewski?
-bilas being perceived as a top-notch analyst who studies film and gets an opportunity to observe how great programs operate on a weekly basis?
-bilas being better connected than just about anyone else in the business - on the coaching side, yes, but also on the player side? bilas, remember, hosts his own camp and has also been prominently involved with nike camps and even the lebron camp. in short: he has some serious recruiting swag.
-bilas being successful in everything he does in life? he's a great tv analyst, yes, but also a great practicer of law.
-bilas being incredibly media savvy? the perfect face for a basketball program, a face that will also get enormous publicity by ESPN, etc.

bilas intangibles?
-loves hip hop, can relate with today's players
-has been to manhattan and has complimented the fan base and atmosphere.
-has 317,000 twitter followers

if bilas feels wanted, he will come.

stop settling. demand jay bilas.

We need to make sure we run a Parkinson's test on all candidates.
