Cell Phone Insiders
« Reply #2150 on: May 11, 2013, 10:38:01 PM »

Quick iPhone question:

What if I have a super old macbook that I've neglected to update to OSX Mt. Lion and I have an iPhone 5 that mushes its face and I can't sync my itunes.  What then?

is this hypothetical or Canadian friend?  mine works fine with an old macbook pro on snow leopard (recently put lion on and also still fine afterward)

What are all of you GSIII users doing with the auto correct? I'm tired of hearing my wife complain about it on her phone  :shakesfist:

tell your wife to spend 3 dollars and use swiftkey.

the first word up when i press "f" is "eff"... maybe i use eff too much...

She's worried about it recording what she types. I don't know if that's a big deal or not.

sorry, i didn't realize we were dealing with a crazy person.  carry on.

Damn, rough crowd. I just switched her phones anyway. I guess I'll just dump the bitch.

OT: anyone low a good divorce lawyer in SW Mo?

lol wut

We are talking about me and I am on like some super old OS X.

I'm partial to HTC, but I'm sure the galaxy will be great too.

You should wait at least 5 days and see if Google/Motorolla releases a new phone at I/O. If they don't, then yeah, make a decision between the three you just mentioned. If I were getting a new android phone right now, it would probably be the HTC One...but that stupid logo/only two capacitive buttons thing is almost enough to make me want something else.

This is kind of a big deal. Not so much because it's a compelling thing to buy, but because of the precedent it sets.

stock android gets updates as soon as they are released, and i believe can always be updated.  carrier versions you have to wait for the carrier to do their update, and then sometimes your phone might stop being supported after a year or so.

oh, and stock android is much more enjoyable than touchwiz.

I'd like to start a thread titled 'Cell Phone Outsiders'

do you guys think that would be a good idea?

just the google nexus phones though? (not sure)

this is a little different because it's not a separate phone. (other than lack of carrier bloat)

this would be the second unlocked phone with LTE,  right?  This would have free Wifi hotspot  w/o rooting? Also, would this phone work on Verizon LTE?

MIR/fellow EVO 4G LTE users, wtf has happened to my battery in the last week?  :sdeek:

Battery used to last well over 24 hours, now the thing drains in less than half a day, even if it is pretty much idle. I've tried a lot of things too, no explanation. I've seen people bitching about the jelly bean upgrade as the reason, but i don't understand. I downloaded jelly bean months ago with no problems. The last week or so has been hilarious in terms of battery life.  :frown:

I live in a place that struggles with reception so when I'm not moving my phone is constantly on the charger. Searching for signal is the ultimate battery drain.

The problem has gone away. The only things I have done is A) uninstalled the Groupon app after noticing that it was draining loads of battery even when I had not opened the app for days, and B) I let the battery completely drain itself before plugging it in a couple times. Now it's back to normal.

PS I could not find any settings in the groupon app for syncing or anything like that, so I'm not sure why it was using so much battery without me ever opening it. I re-downloaded the app, and boom, it happened again. So I uninstalled it again. I guess it just doesn't get along with the EVO.  :dunno:

The Groupon app is a bitch, I had that issue with my first EVO. The official twitter app was also draining the battery like crazy.

Kind of. All of the other nexus devices have been released by Google. This is very much a Samsung phone. It launched with Samsung's software AND it's going to launch with Google's software.

I guess it's a bigger deal if you actually think stock Android is better than Touchwiz, or if you care about getting updates on time. I do care about those things, and would love the option to purchase any phone with stock Android/updates from Google.

relevant

http://www.joe.ie/tech/tech-news/50-of-water-damaged-phones-ended-up-in-the-toilet-0017630-1

when i was working in construction, one of the guys i worked with dropped his nextel in the shitter (construction lingo for port-a-potty).  he actually fished it out and cleaned it off, and it still worked.  he used it for like 2 more years.

that's a company man right there, i would have just left it and told them to spend the 100 bucks on a new one.
