without looking up any stats whatsoever to backup this claim, it appears we are a lot better defensively overall when kelly is on the floor. i think the threat of a legitimate shot blocker in there at least gives teams reason to think otherwise before making a drive.
No doubt. He is one of the best players on this team. He just goes through moments of inconsistency.
But like most post players, Kelly (and Samuels) have ceilings on the minutes they can play and still be effective, plus battling foul trouble. Since Kelly has been back, both he and Samuels are playing about 30 MPG. I like that Frank is staying with those two more, but that may be pushing it and allowing them to still maximize their time on the floor, both would probably be better at about 25-27 MPG each. That's where the Wally/JHR stuff comes in, it really shouldn't have to be either/or b/c it needs to be both. JHR at the 17 MPG he's played the last 3 games is the most I want to see him. Idealy IMHO we would see Kelly and Samuels at around 27, then JHR and Judge split the rest which leaves about 13 MPG each. If one plays a few more minutes fine, but to play at the level Frank wants them to play, we need both. So hopefully both Frank settles down with his Judge PT and Judge gets whatever is holding him back figured out and we can see more of him. I just don't like seeing us only play 3 posts b/c Frank has always tried to play 4 guys there, at least in part.
