I can't believe some of you don't think JHR is awful.

He is our third best post player at the moment, that is what is awful.

Which isn't saying much since we only play 3 post players at the moment.

_Fan has converted me since yesterday regarding JHR. Call him a necessary (but really adorable) evil, I guess.
So, kinda like the discussion we had last year regarding Lou.

jhr wouldn't bother me if he didn't try to have an offense.  just get rebounds, be tall, and pass.  at least once a game he tries to drive it and he looks extremely awkward.

His aggression is what will make him a better player.

There are many dumbasses in this thread, like the facebook stalker.  The one universal quality that every good post player has on any level is aggression, you can't name a single good big in the history of basketball that is passive.

If Jordan doesn't get bulkier or improves his skill even a little he will become a better player because he will become smarter and more confident.  Jordan is everything Wally isn't, Wally has no potential because he's a wimp.

1) The inconsistency, on and off the court season of Curtis Kelly. Preseason the hope was all-league level player and he's not. His up and down year has been a big factor in our year.

He's been really consistent when he's on the court.  His suspensions are what hurt him (and the team).  Without Frank's myssuspensions (yes, that's Frank's fault) and a jaded girlfriend at Dillard's, he's fine.

Offensively, yeah.  Defense and rebounding, not as much. Still good most of the time, but not always consistent. Its why Frank hates him.

without looking up any stats whatsoever to backup this claim, it appears we are a lot better defensively overall when kelly is on the floor.  i think the threat of a legitimate shot blocker in there at least gives teams reason to think otherwise before making a drive.

He's had 7+ rebounds in 3 of 4 games since returning.  :ck:

I think Frank expects more out of him. Maybe unrealistic, I just watch Frank react to Curt and its often negative.

Frank reacts negatively to most things that most of our players do.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

No he won't.

He's already better than he was last year.  His main problem is using his hands on defense.  He makes a lot of stupid fouls, and continuously gets called for reaching in away from the basket and blocking fouls when playing  "totem pole defense would be just as effective.  He is pretty decisive with the basketball even though those decisions are always the correct ones.  I don't really think he is a dumb player, I think he has pretty high bbiq, but his build and body movements make it seem otherwise.

No doubt. He is one of the best players on this team. He just goes through moments of inconsistency.

But like most post players, Kelly (and Samuels) have ceilings on the minutes they can play and still be effective, plus battling foul trouble. Since Kelly has been back, both he and Samuels are playing about 30 MPG. I like that Frank is staying with those two more, but that may be pushing it and allowing them to still maximize their time on the floor, both would probably be better at about 25-27 MPG each. That's where the Wally/JHR stuff comes in, it really shouldn't have to be either/or b/c it needs to be both. JHR at the 17 MPG he's played the last 3 games is the most I want to see him.  Idealy IMHO we would see Kelly and Samuels at around 27, then JHR and Judge split the rest which leaves about 13 MPG each. If one plays a few more minutes fine, but to play at the level Frank wants them to play, we need both. So hopefully both Frank settles down with his Judge PT and Judge gets whatever is holding him back figured out and we can see more of him. I just don't like seeing us only play 3 posts b/c Frank has always tried to play 4 guys there, at least in part.

And if so, who's the Jerry Rice of basketball because whoever he is needs to warm up having all his records smashed.

If there was ever one thread title that could ever 100% entirely encapsulate the complexion of a message board...

Speaking of complexion, I had a pretty HBBIQ conversation with my mom last night.  She tells me, "I like that Will Spradling but he's got to get that face under control".
