If he grabs your arm you should just Morris him in the head.  I'm small and have boney elbow and I Morris guys who grab me all the time.  They get tired of having little bruses all over their arms and chest.

That guy went far beyond being a pussy, IMO.  Extremely odd behavior.  It's just childish.  He's a freak.  On the other hand, I don't think physical play is very typical of pick up games.  People don't normally use their bodies to fight for position, do they?

I definitely wouldn't consider it "physical play", but it is completely normal to use your body for position in pickup games. Maybe in 1985 it wasn't, but this isn't 1985.

just don't want you to be "that guy" who is a little too serious.  i mean, you tried to take a charge in pick up ball, right?

But seriously, people foul and box out and post up. That isn't taking things too seriously at all.

i wouldn't consider those things fighting for position.  i would, however, anticipate a possible negative reaction if i tried to push a guy where i wanted him to go.

OK, need a goEMAW ruling on this:

On offense, a guy was playing lazy defense at the wing, just basically running parallel to me while I nudge him to the center of the paint to give me a better angle to the basket. As I kick the ball out to the perimeter, he grabs my arm, and says, "if you push off, I am going to grab your arm." I generally have no problem with an exchange of contact, but I don't think grabbing an arm is equal to creating contact with someone playing lazy ass defense. I really didn't care, and I will do it again (only maybe call his foul if he does it on a shot), but just wanted a goEMAW ruling.

Was this guy 40+?

You were in the right. Slightly pushing off does not warrant an arm grab. It deserves more of a stepping on the back of your shoe on the way back down the court and pretend it was an accident.

BTW, I did the Michael Beasley kiss my hand while holding up 3 fingers thing after I drained a step back 3 in this guys rec spec'd face at the Y yesterday.

I don't mind it when people shoot at the other end. Usually because I am

A. Too slow and tired to make a fast break normally.
B. When the stars align and I get a steal, I usually put it up too hard due to excitement, and I miss the layup anyway.

I just like standing under the basket like Asprilla and getting my own rebounds until I make a basket, being much taller than a lot of folks.

Anyway, bearded Rusty is back. And Rusty grows a damn fine beard.  :gocho: Anyway, today, the other team was trying to figure out who to guard. Someone says, "you take the guy with the beard". And some dude with a lame beard on my team says, "you mean the guy with the long beard?" I felt bad for the guy.

Then, I dropped a rough ridin' Denis Clemente transition 3. :gocho:

Last Sunday I was playing at our church court and I droped like 5 Clemente like running floaters in the lane.  I also had a pretty sweet double pump reverse layup in traffic.  But i was like 3 for 20 on 3 point shots  :frown: Yeah I'm that guy, but shooters gotta shoot. amiright?

What happened? Expect contact and didn't get any, Jamar-style?

Pretty much.

2 incidents today:

1) I go to the lane, get obviously hacked across my arm, miss, then call the foul as soon as the other team gets the rebound (but didn't make an outlet or dribble). (I rarely can call fouls while I'm in the motion of shooting - don't know why, just can't.) I say "who gives a crap, it's still a foul." Discussion ended. Not sure why its a big deal, but sometimes people whine about late foul calls. why?

2) My team gets scored on, and I roll my eyes while I slowly go to throw in the ball. Some guy who cusses and yells a lot (at the rough ridin' Y) sprints to the ball and doesn't even throw it in, just takes off without throwing it in and says something stupid like "Let's go". I shrug my shoulders, whatever. But then he makes a transition 3, comes back and is like, "Don't rough ridin' walk to the ball!". I tell him to eff off, and proceed to mock him the rest of the game, like, if he did anything wrong. He pretty much quit trying because of it, but at least he didn't try to coach me again and he pretty much shut the eff up.

I discovered that shitty Park hoops are very inferior to the ones in the Rec.

The three ball falls easily in that building.

you do seem to play with idiots, but you're wrong here.  you can't wait till the rebound to call a foul for eff's sake.  you should be able to figure out the ethical conflict in that without the help of goEMAW's experts.

(for the record, I have no problem with not being granted a foul in this case, just curious what the eff difference it makes.)

It makes sense to wait to see if the ball goes in before you call a foul.

I kind of agree, many people don't.

we also had a similar issue (I wasn't involved) where a guy was getting bumped at the half court line pretty hard, but didn't call the foul. So the guy bumped him again, and this time, he stole the ball. Ballhandler calls the foul. Fouler gets pissed. "Why didn't you call the first one if it was a foul?!?" To me, there is nothing bitchier than calling a non-shooting foul when possession does not change hands. Agree?

why?

because you're waiting to see if you if your team gets the oboard/easy putback before making your call.  you're gaining an advantage by waiting since the oboard is far better than checking the ball up top.

what if the foul call is made after my team gets the reb?
