.484 is terrible for someone you think is a power hitter. He should never go below .700

You guys, my daughter is about to turn 15 months old. What's my avenue? I'm looking for cheap.

Also, I'm REALLY hoping to get her into music instead of sports. For a lot of reasons. Any tips?

For music:
1. Start piano lessons if possible. Each of my kids start piano in 2nd grade, I don't know if it's the best time to start but that's what we did. You will be miles ahead of most kids. You'll understand music theory and the building blocks of music.
2. Expose your kids to lots of types of music and let them see you enjoy it. Live, recorded, you playing etc. I know you'll do this. Take advantage of free concerts whenever you can.

For sports:
I don't know what is best, but moving your body is essential and in the modern world kids just operate differently. So you can still be a moving healthy person with teaching your kids to ride a bike and swim and run etc. but I think the experience of team and individual sports are good milestones of development. Rec sports are a great option for this if you want to avoid the club stuff. You can not go nuts but have your kid on a rec soccer or rec swim team or whatever.

I'm learning that you can have well rounded kids that have their favorite thing, but also participate in _______. Like for my 15 year old, he loves writing and is super successful in the newspaper/yearbook/writing competitions and that's his passion, and he participates in track and swimming. That's great for him. My 13 year old loves loves loves soccer and participates in band at school. That's great too.

It was at Wichita Hoops. There are 9 courts and over 100 whistles per minute. Our kids are pretty new to this scene and went 1-2 today.

Also, you have too many kids

you think I'm not aware of the situation? Do you know how much they eat? This morning after all the swim/basketball/conditioning workouts I made 10 eggs, an entire pack of bacon, and I think 8 slices of toast and basically got to eat none of it. The teenagers 4th meal the crap out of my house. Ramen, sandwiches, cereal, whatever is in the fridge they eat it like they just got home from sea. The 15 year was eating all day during track season and lost weight. It's insane. If I consumed as much as he did I'd probably gain 20 pounds in a month.

The funny thing of it is that it seems like a ton, but my teenage kids still have hours and hours of free time. I'm pretty convinced during the teen years you need some anchors in your life to keep you on a good life rhythm.

Also all the kids except the youngest take piano lessons which also costs a lot. 13 year old might quit piano in August, we'll see.

Our "summer"

15 year old boy: swim or run every weekday 7 AM. Strength and conditioning 8:30-10:30. Quit Football and is doing CC, swim, and track for 10th grade next year. Weekly swim meet. We made it with this one. Outside of a pretty chill summer swim club all his sports are at school and therefore free.

13 year old girl: Club basketball practice 2 nights a week. Tourneys every other weekend including 2 out of town. Middle school running on Monday and Friday mornings at 7. Some open gym basketball at the high school I think a soccer clinic. She is the best athlete in the fam. Is thinking about trying out for 8th grade volleyball even though she's never played. I'm convinced she's make a B team or something if she tries. She doesn't love running and I think is looking for a way out of middle school cross country. In the fall she'll start up again on her club soccer team again and she moved up to the higher level team.

9 year old girl: swim in the morning for like 45 minutes and a soccer and basketball clinic sometime. Weekly swim meets. I'm anticipating this child being a theater kid and not doing a ton of sports in high school. Just doing rec level soccer/basketball next school year. I'll probably coach her soccer team.

6 year old boy: taking swim lessons and doing coach pitch baseball. Will probably join a first grade rec soccer team in the fall.

I need a nap.

Ok so this is just for 2025. I have kept track of every youth sporting event I've been to as either a spectator, coach, or official so far since January 1. I am not counting practices. For watching the games, most of these are my kids but some are like varsity soccer/baseball/basketball games up at the school to watch friends kids etc.

As an official:
Basketball: 39 games
Baseball: 57 games

As a spectator
Swim Meets: 4
Track Meets: 4
Basketball Games: 19
Soccer Games: 18
Baseball Games: 7

That's 148 games/meets I've been to so far this year, and I don't go to every game or meet for each of my kids. I've missed plenty. It's absolute insanity. Between now and next Monday I will attend 2 swim meets, umpire 3 baseball games, and attend 4 or 5 basketball games.

Oh it’s mostly fun. I just hadn’t had the younger kids in a while and was like “oh good grief here we go.”

CF3 Family Summer:

15 year old: morning swimming or running, strength and conditioning. He's quitting football and doing cross country for sophomore year, so lots of work to get ready for that.
13 year old: club basketball with tournaments every other weekend. 2 out of town tournaments. lots of practicing. volleyball and soccer camps
9 year old: swim team at local pool, soccer and basketball camp here and there
6 year old: T Ball, soccer camp

I'll umpire probably 3ish times a week. Might work a basketball tourney if I get a chance.

We're that family.

Those player introductions for every AB on some 12u travel team are beyond cringe
For those that don't attend 12u travel team games, can you elaborate?

They will have a giant speaker and some prerecorded AI voice that will say "Now batting for the Rawlings Tigers, number 13.... BRADEN RILEY!" and then play some stupid walk up song. I was working last weekend and it is in between high school season and summer ball and got put on a 12u field and it's all day. It's so stupid. By the time the kids get to 14u, 15u, 16u etc they do away with all that Mickey Mouse crap thank the lord.

I'm really liking this draft class. In fact I like it so much I'm predicting we will at LEAST make the AFC Championship game next year.  :gocho:

I'm hoping we drafted smart no arrest types

Been on a Stephen King tear lately. The Shining, 11/22/63 and now halfway through Pet Semetary. I'm not sure when my dad tendencies to read historical and/or more high brow crap kicks in, but it certainly hasn't yet.

it's a necessary step. i really enjoy all 3 of those

Should I rewatch any of the last season of Last Of Us or just jump into #2?

I can't fathom having the time to rewatch a previous season of a show. Barely have time to watch new shows as it is

23
Hey Dug that's not cool man.
Are you suggesting that he or others should be cool to people who express bigoted views?

Well, im suggesting that talking about someone else’s kids isnt cool. It’s not cool when Dax does it. I felt the temp rising in the thread and was hoping to pull back the reigns. I can just stay out of it if it’s helpful.

24
And the Dax post that provoked it also wasn't cool.
