Hmm. So does that mean that you could shed some light on when the Ath. Dept. wanted to have the design phase completed?

From what I saw at various donor meetings up at K-State last year, Populous had progressed the design pretty far along.  The University had them do an entire master plan that phased out the expansion phases and laid out the program of the building level by level.  Currie showed renderings of the exterior and they had shots of views in all the club spaces, the hall of honor and stuff.  They made a presentation on the pro forma and showed all the suites available on each level and how much the donation level would be.  All this stuff was being showed publically.

This thing was really far along from what I could tell.

Here's what I know, they have said all along they want this open by the first game of 2013.

So, it's going to be interesting to see what happens now that they're starting at square one with the new outfit.  I guess they could do what they usually do in China and attempt to hand them the design Populous created and just have them implement it.

I've talked with people connected to K-State over the last few days and I really believe reversing course at the 11th hour was not what they wanted to do, but felt it was necessary to avoid possible litigation stemming from the article.

no architect here, so don't know how this all works.  do the firms submit proposals on what they could do giving the financial parameters (renderings), or do they just bid on the project?  i would think we'd want all interested parties to submit what they would do giving our financial terms and what we all want included, by again, don't have any clue how this works, and not ashamed to admit it.

Firms typically present based on qualifications and project delivery ability given the timeline and budget.

In this instance, firms were prohibited from presenting design.

There are no "bids" per se, it actually very unusual that fees are part of the initial selection process.

Upon selection, fee is then negotiated.

Guys, guys....I'm sure Currie will explain, in detail, why they went with the Atlanta firm.  Just sit back and let Currie inform us of his precise reasons.

Yes.  I'm sure Currie will provide a detailed, logical explanation as to why he decided to hire an Atlanta based architect mostly known for hospitals and corporate office buildings.

And decided to walk away from Kansas City based Populous, world renowned sports architecture practice, known for designing Yankees Stadium and the 2012 London Olympics main stadium, employer of over 40 K-State architects and a 15 year working relationship with K-State athletics.

Look, KSTATEO is just sick and tired of being asked about it's condition.  Sure, it has to take a couple of naps just to get through the day, but really now, who doesn't?

Football will never get over this bout of autoimmune without lots of naps.  Unfortunatey for us, LHC Bill Snyder never sleeps.

Handing out pieces of men's jewelry in exchange for positive media exposure.

Hey, old people with men's jewelry, pm me and we'll get this positive media exposure train rolling.  I've already lined up a guy to resize stuff for me.

Remember to scratch their names off and replace them with your own.

Damn.  Burns hated working for Snyder so much he'd rather abandon his son in Manhattan than spend another season here on this sinking ship.

I find that hilarious.

During his tenure he also presided over the worst 20 year stretch of K-State basketball in the history of our school as his neglect and abandonment of our once proud program for Snyder's football team left us on life support until Huggin's arrival.  And of course good ol' Dr. Jon, in typical Dr. Jon fashion will be quick to take all the credit for hiring Huggins and just as quick to absolve himself of all responsibility for the Altman, Asbsury, and Wooldrdidge eras that almost killed men's basketball here.

You know, as Jon re-writes his history, I hope he recalls that proud period of time as well.

Didn't Wefald also want to eliminate the architecture program?

Yes.

Not for the Leavitt situation, but for my lunch with President Wefald. He's working on a book about the history of Kansas State (it's going to take him years) and wanted to discuss my 2001 book on K-State football history that he is using for research. We spoke for 90 minutes about history, K-State history and, of course, K-State football and basketball.

We too easily forget all that a person does right once something goes wrong, and I know after years of amazing service, he retired with some controversy. However, President Wefald saved the Kansas State athletic department and university from the Missouri Valley, and so radically reformed the academic standards at the university that only my generation and older (pre-Wefald) can fully grasp what he did.

And I will never forget what he did for me next, for personal reasons I will not share, he then slid across the table his 2007 Fiesta Bowl ring for me to keep. He told me how to have his name removed and mine put on it, and I told him I would never do that for without him, the ring would never exist.

BINGO.

I don't care how Wefald left, the man was a savior, and should be remembered as such. A miracle worker.

Today is one of those days.

As far as Jon Wefald and his officious, crony laden fiefdom, he can made his bed, and he can lie in it.  He nearly single handedly put our athletic department on the brink of financial ruin with his outlandish and incompetent management of it.  He fired an athletic director so as to fill the position with an unqualified chum to carry out his whims and execute completely inappropriate contract dealings that left the university open to tremendous amounts of exposure and hurt the credibility to the school.  He set the football program back a decade by personally hiring Ron Prince.  And possibly has put us in a position that we may never recover from by meddling with the hire of Gary Patterson and performing the ultimate act of cronyism by putting LHC Bill Snyder back in the head coaching position so he could stand at the podium once more at the end of his victory tour and look like a hero.

If one actually wanted to write the real (not revisionist) history, it could be said that Jon Wefald destroyed more in his final five years during his drunken, self serving power trip at Kansas State, than he built in the prior twenty.

How suprising that Tim Fitzgerald can’t see this pompous buffoon for what he is.

What a fool.

Can't confirm, but rumblings are strong..........
