From this point on I will be providing updates for our :ksu: that are currently competing on the PGA Tour.
Robert Streb (KSU 2009) is currently 84th in the Fedex Cup rankings. His best finish is T16 at Humana. He sits 94 on the PGA Tour money list with $167,664 thru six events. He was paired with Tiger Woods last week in the final round of the Honda Classic, and whooped Tiger's ass. This week he is playing in the Puerto Rico Open, shot -1 first round, and is even thru 8 holes in round 2.
Aaron Watkins (KSU 2004) has yet to make a cut on Tour this season. However, he shot -2 in the first round yesterday at the Puerto Rico Open, and is currently -3 thru 9 holes and T15 in round two.

Man, I wish I was good at golf seems like it should be simple enough.
Any tips dobcats?
-
Most high handicappers slice the ball. I would advise said cappers to go to the range, put a ball down, and point the logo of the ball just outside their right foot (for right handed players). Then focus on hitting the logo. This will get the club coming in to impact from the inside and should produce a straighter ball flight, and probably more distance.
:drink:
-
Man, that's a great tip.
And this is a great idea for a thread.

Will do! Perhaps I will leave a weekly tip with my update.
-
Round two is in the books for Streb and Watkins, both did WORK.
Streb had seven birdies, no bogeys, five of those birdies coming on the back nine. He is currently -8 and tied for 7th.
Watkins had five birdies, no bogeys and finished at -7, tied for 9th.
We have a possible all :ksu: pairing for round 3 tomorrow.
The leader, cow poke Peter Uihlein is at -12.
-
Great thread. Looking forward to Doberman_CATS!!!' golf tips. GO GOLF CATS!
Also, would play in a gE charity golf event

Excellent thread.

From this point on I will be providing updates for our :ksu: that are currently competing on the PGA Tour.
Great idea, thanks
-
Heading into the final round Streb was seven shots back. He smoked the front nine, shooting -4. He sits in a tie for seventh at -14, four shots back of the lead. Streb also gave a shout out to all the peeps partying at FPD yesterday
Robert Streb ?@therealstrebber
Happy fake party's day to everybody in Aggieville from Puerto Rico! #greenbeer #greeneggsandham
Watkins is currently -3 for his final round and -11 for the tournament with one to play. He's looking for his best finish on Tour this year.
-
Solid performance for both our :ksu: Golf Cats on Tour.
Mr Streb just barley missed his first top 10 on the PGA Tour with a tie for 11th. He banked a cool $80,500 for his finish and moved up to 84th in the Fedex Cup rankings (Top 125 qualify for Fedex Cup playoffs and earn PGA Tour status for another year).
Watkins finished 30th and banked just under $20k.
Payouts were decreased for this event because of the World Golf Championships taking place at the same time at Doral, which Tiger won yesterday.
Next up for Streb is the Tampa Bay Championship at Innisbrook Resort, Copperhead course.
Watkins has an off week I believe.
:drink:
-
Thanks for the update. Please keep 'em coming. :)
-
Streb and Watkins both rock the Powercat on their bag. Streb wears purple for every final round.

post the tips doberman!!!
-
Good morning gentlemen. Doberman_CATS is headed to Veeeeegassss this afternoon, figured it might be a good idea to leave the weekly tip now than after I start :drink:
This week I will walk you through the steps for a proper grip. You'll need a sharpie, and an old glove.
Step 1 - Put glove on, take the sharpie and make a line going from middle of index finger to just below your pinkie like so:
Step 2 - Grab your club and align the grip with the markings on your glove, then close your hand.
Step 3 - When you position your right hand, the handle should rest across the base of your right pinkie to the top crease of your index finger. This sets your right palm to the side and a little on top of the club. Your index finger wraps around the handle.
Step 4 - After your grip is complete, get into the setup position and look where the V's formed by your thumb and index fingers in both hands are pointing. If they are pointed in between the right side of your face and your right shoulder, you are good to go. Take 50 practice swings without hitting a ball to get used to this feeling.
Work on this and last week's tip for two weeks, you'll see results.
:drink:
-
Great thread.

After missing the cut at the Arnold Palmer, Streb bounced back with a solid T22 last week at the Shell Houston Open, banking $60k. He's sitting pretty on the Fedex Cup list, keeps this up he should be exempt next year.
This week he's at the Valero Texas Open
:ksu:
-
$60K in a 4 day tourney. pretty sweet.

Yeah. Pimento and cheese sandwiches are really a south thing, but have a connection to the Masters because they sell them for a like a dollar or something every year.

Streb missed the cut last week at a tough course out East.
This week Streb and Watkins are both in New Orleans for the Zurich Classic. Watkins just teed off, while Strebber tees off at 1120 CT.
:drink: :emawkid:
-
Watkins is currently -5 thru 11 in the final round and tied for 8th at -11, three back of leader Lucas Glover at the Zurich Classic. Go Cats!
-
Watkins gets his first top ten of the year finishing 8th and banking $165,000. Solid weekend in New Orleans.
Streb struggled and missed the cut this week.
-
-
Great finish for Watkins. Streb is a good player. I don't think he'll struggle long.
-
Alright alright, back with some updates on our KSU CATS on TOUR.
After six missed cuts in a row, Streb finished T39 at the Fedex St Jude Classic a couple weeks ago. This week he is at the Travelers Championship and is currently -2 thru 13 in round 1. He currently sits at 126th in the Fedex Cup Points Race. He needs to step it up a bit!
Following Watkins great finish in New Orleans (T8) he missed four cuts, then played in the Web.com Tour Tournament in Wichita last week finishing T22. This week he is with Streb in the Travelers Champ. Round 1 tee time is 12:40. He sits at 144th in the Fedex Cup Points race.

Sweet finish to the Travelers Championship with Ken Duke getting his first win on Tour at the age of 43. Our boys both made the cut and finished pretty well. Watkins finished at -3 and T30 banking $32,584.17 while Streb finished at E and banking $13,542.
Both players will be in this weeks AT&T National at the highly regarded Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD.
-
After a missed cut at Congressional CC, Streb finished -3 T41 at this past weeks Greenbrier Classic, banking a cool $20k. He sits at 131st on the FedexCup points list. (The top 125 on the list retain their PGA Tour cards for the 2014 season.) Streb is only 20 points behind the 125th place player, with plenty of time left to make it. Streb will be playing in this week's John Deere Classic in Silvis, IL
Watkins has missed his past two cuts at Congressional and The Greenbrier but will be looking to rebound this week as he is also in the field at TPC Deere Run. Sitting at 169th on the FedexCup money list, and 161 points behind Streb, he's going to need a solid finish to the season to make the 125.
I have a feeling one of these guys is going to have a solid finish this week at the John Deere.
In other news, local legend Tom Watson finished one stroke better than Streb at -4 and T38 at The Greenbrier. Mr. Watson (the 2014 Ryder Cup Captain) will be playing this week in Omaha, NE at the Senior US Open Championship.
Watson is also coming off a victory in the Watson Challenge that was held at The National GC in Parkville. After losing the trophy last year to the former Kansas State golfer and current pro on the NGA Tour, Joseph Ida, Watson won back the cup and was crowned the Kansas City area's best golfer 2013. (Doberman_CATS!!! failed to qualify for the event and slammed :drink: as a result)
-
Solid start for Streb today, shoots a -5 66 and is currently two back of the clubhouse leaders. Watkins is just getting his round started.
-
Streb finishes in 22nd place at -13 banking $47,840 and gaining 47 FedexCup points which should put him inside the top 125. He will be playing next week at the Sanderson Farms Championship since he will not be in the field for The Open Championship.
Watkins missed the cut and will also be playing at the Sanderson next week.
Former Tejas golfer, 19 year old Jordan Spieth won the John Deere Classic this week in a sweet playoff with Zach Johnson and David Hearn. He became the first teenager to win on Tour since 1931 banking $828,000 for his efforts.

Caddie Races today, first caddie to touch green gets $50. (Very fun when hammered and betting on caddies)

Sounds pretty awesome dober!
-
Derby, KS resident Woody Austin is currently tied for the lead in the PGA Tour's other event this week, Sanderson Farms Classic.
Streb and Watkins missed the cut.
-
Woody won the playoff.
-
Streb finished t46 at this week's Reno-Tahoe Open. Watkins missed cut. Little brothers Gary Woodland won. That's it, hungover from Vegas, Dobs out.
-
This is the biggest week of the year for our PGA TOURCATS as they both need solid finishes to make the Fedex Cup Playoffs and earn their Tour card for next year. Here is how the Fedex Cup playoffs works:
Top 125 point leaders earn Tour card for 2014 and exemption into The Barclays, the first tournament of the playoffs August 22-25.
Top 100 after The Barclays moves on to play in the Deutsche Bank Championship August 30-Sep 2nd.
Top 70 make the BMW Championship September 12-15th.
Then the top 30 points leaders play in the TOUR Championship Sep 19-22nd with $10 million on the line for the winner of the Playoffs. Last year Brandt Snedeker won the TC AND the Playoffs resulting in an $11.44 million payday. (You can win the TC and not win the playoffs, all depends on how many points you have. For more info go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FedEx_Cup)
Streb currently sits at 133rd in points and will need to finish 23rd or better this week at the Wyndham Championship to break into the top 125.
Watkins is 185th in points so he will need a 2nd place finish to get into the top 125.
Follow live scoring tomorrow here http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/wyndham-championship/leaderboard.html
Streb is off at 11 am, Watkins at 1250.
:ksu:
-
Streb is -1 on the day thru 10, sitting at T21, if he keeps it up he'll be on tour next year!
-
Streb finished 126th, missed an 11 foot birdie on 18 that would have clinched a spot in the Payoffs and his Tour Card. They will now need to play in the Web.com Tour playoffs to get their Tour card back, otherwise they will be on the Web.com Tour next season.
-
Robert Streb is in the field this week at the Frys.com Open on a sponsors exemption. This is the first event of the 2013-2014 PGA Tour Season. If Streb finishes well he will continue to get exemptions into PGA Tour events, if not then he will be playing on the Web.com Tour with fellow KSU'er Aaron Watkins this year.
He currently sits at -2 (T7) thru 14 holes in round 1.

Lotta TSC there!

Streb finished t19 and cashed a nice little $76,555 payday.
He is not in the field this week at the Phoenix Open (awesome tourney to watch though).
His first Web.com tourney is Feb 13 but with the way he has been playing, wouldn't be surprised if he got an exemption into the PGATour's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am that week.
-
Went to the Phoenix open yesterday. Sat in the grandstands on 16 from 745 till about 330 after bubba finished. It was freaking wild. Like a combo tailgate and game all day long where the chicks were all dressed slutty and the weather was great.

So jealous, been wanting to do that. Should be a nice finish today!

Robert Streb fired a bogey-free round of 8-under 64 on Monday to earn medalist honors and a spot in this week’s Valero Texas Open. Also making it through Monday’s qualifier at The Club at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas were Hunter Brown, Derek Lamely and Jay McLuen.
The 26-year-old Streb, who has made the cut in all five events he's played on the PGA TOUR this season, is a native of Chickasha, Okla., and played collegiate golf at Kansas State University. Streb's best finish this year is a tie for 14th at the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com.
More from pgatour.com
Robert Streb ... Busting at the seams for when fields open to 156 regularly in coming weeks. Despite conditional status, he's 5-for-5 with two top 20s and sits 136th in FedExCup points. After a T14 in Puerto Rico, he cracked the 144-man field at TPC San Antonio via the open qualifier where he medaled with a bogey-free 64. Ranks 41st in adjusted scoring, second in scrambling and T7 in par-4 scoring.

Thanks, it was a really good time. Now that I've seen the practice round, I'm ready to go to a tournament day.
Also, the picture in the middle with the lake and the following shots with Bubba, Phil, etc. are from the Par 3 tournament at Augusta's Par 3 course (which is nearly as immaculate as the main course).

Augusta little known fact: the Masters is played on overdressed rye grass. They close the course in midsummer because it is in such poor shape.

I think you should also post this in the Lawn Care thread. Might help some folks as we approach summer.

Nobody that is asking for advice in the lawn thread is overseeding ryegrass in the fall...that would be my guess.
_FAN, if there is ever a concellation prize of getting on at Sage Valley, do it. PRO tip: that would not be a concellation prize. (although most people would be all ???? when you said you played Sage Valley, vs the panty falling that happens when you play the Masters (2nd part is not a pro-tip, just an assumption).
Another pro-tip: you need to become a CGCS, you can play almost anywhere for free. (I am not a CGCS). Since you live in Manhattan, you could go to KSUCATSUNIVERSITY part time and have this knocked out by the time you are 50.

It's looking like another top 25 finish for Streb, his fourth in the eight events he's competed in this year. He's an impressive 8/8 in cuts made this year, ranks inside the top 75 in FedEx Cup points, and has made close to $900,000. Streb should have his Tour card locked up for next year already!
Over on the Web.com Tour, Aaron Watkins is not in the field this week in Georgia. He's 2/4 in cuts made this year, with his best finish being a t41 a few weeks back.

Streb is about to tee off in the first round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, TX. The purse is $6.9 mill, with the winner receiving $1.242 mill and 500 FedexCup points. His playing partners are Tag Ridings and Steve Flesch. John Daly is in the group ahead of him, so that's cool.
-
Streb is struggling. Now would be a good time to change out his ball, ball marker, divot tool, tees, the color he marked his ball with, maybe his socks and hat.

:surprised: at least he is not John Merrick :dunno:

He's currently on pace to make the Playoffs that starts with the Barclays (top 125 on the list), Deustche Bank (top 100), BMW (top 70), and the Tour Championship is the top 30 players on the FedexCup list, all trying to win that $10 million dollar prize.

Would one win probably get him in the top 30?
-
Would one win probably get him in the top 30?
Yes, the majority of the tourney's are worth 500 points to the winner. A win this week would get him into the top 20. If he keeps getting top 25's he'll be in striking distance when the playoffs begin.

Streb is in the field this week at the Jack Nicklaus hosted Memorial Tournament, held annually at Muirfield Village GC in Dublin, OH. He will be competing against some of the top players in the world including 7 of the top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings. This will be Streb's first appearance at the Memorial, he tees off at 138 pm Thursday with playing partners Cameron Tringale and Justin Hicks.
Streb currently ranks 74th on the FedexCup points list and has made $893,003 in the 9 tournaments he has made the cut in this year. Hopefully he can get that number up over a mill after this week.

Streb is -1 for the tournament thru 4 holes in his second round, currently t31. Mr. Streb is in for a long couple of days if he makes the cut. On Monday, he will be trying to qualify for the US Open thru sectional qualifying being held at Colonial Country Club. The format for sectional qualifying is 36 holes of stroke play in one day. Cats
Another former KState Golfer, Joseph Ida, is also in sectional qualifying at Colonial Country Club. He's currently playing professionally on the Adams Pro Golf Tour.

Mr. Streb had a rough final round on Sunday shooting a +4, 72 finishing t28, banking $38,646.66 and 39 FedExCup points.
On Monday he attempted to qualify for the US Open but finished one shot outside the cut line.
This week he's playing in Memphis, TN at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. He finished t39 in the tournament last year.
Since he did not make it into the US Open, there is a chance Streb will play in the Watson Challenge being held at Loch Lloyd Country Club on June 13-15th. Tom Watson started this tournament years ago to find the best golfer in Kansas City. If you're interested in attending, here's the info http://www.kansascitygolfer.org/thewatsonchallenge/overview/
I've caddied a few times in the tournament, there's some great golf being played, and there should be several KSU'ers competing for the $10k first place prize. And, it's always fun to watch Mr. Watson play. Cats.

After a rough finish at the Greenbrier last week (still made $12k), Streb did work today in the first round of the John Deere. He shot a 6 under 65 and is two back of the leader Zach Johnson. I think this course sets up well for Streb, he's ranked in the top 5 in par 4 scoring on the PGA Tour, and there are some easy par 4's at this course. If he scores well on the par 5's this week, he could be looking at another top ten.

This past weekend Streb competed in the Wyndham Championship, finishing T18, banking $66,780 and earning 51 FedexCup points. He officially locked down his PGA Tour card for next year and qualified for the FedexCup playoffs which begin this week at the Barclays. After the Barclays the top 100 in the FedexCup move on to the Deutche Bank Championship, top 70 to the BMW Championship, then the top 30 advance to the Tour Championship and compete for the $10 million prize. Streb will need to make some moves the next couple of weeks to advance to the BMW and TC.
Aaron Watkins competed in the News Sentinel Open on the Web.com Tour shooting a final round 68 and finishing T6 banking $18,425. That was Watkins third top 20 in a row and now ranks 28th on the Web.com Tour's money list. He needs to finish in the top 25 to earn his PGA Tour card for next year and only has one more tournament left to move up. He is currently $22k short of the player in the 25th spot.
If he does not finish in the top 25 he will advance to the Web.com Tour Finals which consists of four tournaments, four weeks in a row. The top 50 players on the money list after the four tournaments will earn their tour cards for next year.

U.S. Open- Chambers Bay- Washington :excited:
PGA Championship- Kohler- Wisconsin :dunno:
Obviously I wanna do the open, but I wonder how much flights will be out there? I can only imagine. I need to take advantage of this, this summer.

Man. I'm jealous.

I wish it was the Masters, _fan. i meant to @ you on that post. So jealous of your experience. I really wanna do the open tho. The only part of the U.S. I haven't hit up is the NW and I hear it's beautiful, plus, it's the open for crying out loud.
-
Really looking forward to the Bryan Nelson classic this year.

Good catch, FSD

Omg that is incredible, wacky

Naming aside that is an incredibly fun tournament. That should be wacky's number one target.

Meh. I copy and pasted ms. wackys email sent to her by her director. You get the point.
-
"Bryan" vs. "Byron" was just a :). Seriously, though, 'Grats Wacky. Very envious on this end. I've been to a few Tour events...you'll love it.
-
:) Thanks, man! I'm looking fwd to it. It's adorable, cause Ms. Wackys like: "Hey hun? Is the PGA Championship a good one? I'm going to that too."
-
Did her boss include the emoticons? I love her boss if he/she included the emoticons.
Super cool to go to the PGA. You'll be surprised by how expensive sponsorships are. We spent $20 thousand to have a table with our name on it at the open this past year. That is in addition to time and product support on the renovation. It is cray cray.
Gonna win 'em all!
-
:) That's nuts, but I believe it.

Phoenix open coming up and Tiger is playing. Should be even more wild than usual with that and the Super Bowl in town. We are hoping to sit up close on 16 to yell to streb. Anyone else going?
-
StrebCat is two shots off of the lead after the first round at Phoenix.
-
This guy is a huge stud.
Gonna win 'em all!

Streb is 5 shots back going into the final round. Rally time.

That hole in one yesterday was amazing. Threw several cans onto the course. We ended up front row and caught golf balls from Streb Bubba Mahan Tony Finau and Speith. 'Twas a great day.

The stadium looks really cool. I was watching when he hit the hole in one, it was very cool. Looks like a fun golf tournament to attend.

Streb finished tied for 10th at Phoenix. He's now 2nd in FedEx points. :)

To get in the playoff putting much of the round with a wedge was pretty stud stuff.
-
Streb finishes in 22nd place at -13 banking $47,840 and gaining 47 FedexCup points which should put him inside the top 125.
Spieth is totes going to run things when he's older.

Streb, with Watson advice, shoots 66 in Open debut

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – It has become a rite of passage for first-time Open Championship participants and Robert Streb had no problem taking his turn under Tom Watson’s wing this week at the Old Course.
Streb, who is playing his first Open and lives close to the five-time Open champion in Kansas City, took advantage of his Midwest roots to arrange a practice round with Watson on Tuesday.
“He’s obviously had a great track record over here,” said Streb, who scorched the Old Course on Thursday with a 6-under 66 to move himself into contention.

Watson, who is playing his last Open this week, has become a mentor to younger players in recent years at the game’s oldest championship, playing practice rounds with the likes of Brandt Snedeker and Streb.
Of all the advice Watson gave on Tuesday, Streb said it was on the iconic Road Hole where he learned the most.
“The best thing I got was try not to hit it too far into the green on 17,” said Streb, who made par on the penultimate hole. “Just try to get it up there on top and take your two putts and leave.”

Streb has spent a lot of time near the top of leader boards, lately. Also, he has a name that sounds like a nickname that's short for something else, but it's actually just his complete surname.

Watching The Open live at 1:20 in the morning. Life doesn't get any better than this.

Bit breezy over there today.
-
Streb hanging in there at -9 heading into the final round, leader is at -12. ESPN showed one Streb shot in all of his third round.
-
That was total bullshit. Chip on shoulder thread, where are you?
Gonna win 'em all!
-
That birdie put lipping out on 18 really messed with him yesterday. Would love to see him finish with a birdie today. No rounds over par would not be a bad way to go home.
-
finishes T18 in the open 'ship. not bad at all.
-
Phoenix open this weekend boys. Headed back to the 16th hole. Hopefully streb kills it

Been awhile.
Streb advanced through Web.com finals and earned his PGA Tour card back for the upcoming season.
He's off to a solid start for the 18-19 season finishing T26, T4, T32 during the fall swing.
He was recently a guest on @ClubProGuy Learning Center, which is hilarious and you should all follow him on the twitter

He played some clutch golf today, great birdie putt on 17. Really good up and down on the first playoff hole and then an amazing shot to win.
