A real college football game can be a great family event, but try not to get too frustrated if you're forced to bring your football-illiterate nephew—he means well, and he's just excited about spending time with you. Here's a list of questions he might ask so you can get all the eye-rolling out of the way ahead of time and concentrate on the male bonding.

    * How many touchdowns are in a field goal? I need to know for my report.
    * If the goal is to acquire distance, wouldn't a grooved or finned ovoid projectile facilitate a more pronounced trajectory?
    * How much mana do you need to tap to summon a quarterback?
    * I have to go to the bathroom. Can you pause it?
    * Is it cheating to use The Force?

That's what I was thinking.  Also wondering what kind of Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) would spend money to sing Rock Chalk Jayhawk with 20,000 other queers, or whatever attendance ku will have by that time.

Aren't they trying to make money off of the football team for the gridiron club? I don't see how giving away tickets helps that. :dunno:

Maybe these were all the "misplaced" tickets they found in Lew's office???

I don't see much of a problem with putting the tickets for this week's game one there.  Shitty opponent and they probably have a bunch left over.  But, the Colorado tickets?  That's like a month and a half away.  Are they already throwing the towel in this year?  Just assuming that they will be shitty (along with Colorado) and the stadium will be empty?

One was FCS UMass, one is Big 12 Colorado?  Pretty big difference.  Bigger than $16 I would figure :dunno:

Also, ours was like that preseason.  Didn't seem like a fire-sale after a 1-2 start.

Its a package to a game this upcoming week.  Not a conference game weeks away.  If your team could sell 4 tickets at the same time, they would do it too.

BTW as of yesterday 600 tickets were left to this game....with a portion of those given back by UCF.....so how many groupons you got to sell before you even get within 6,000 tickets left this weekend?

Its the conference game thats also going have the lowest excitement as well. Everyone knows the KU isn't going to be that successful this year so the AD is going to put a few deals out there to get some more fans to come. Every school (except for the power houses) do it. KState does the same thing. You make the statement that the game is a week away but they also are 3-0 with a win against a BCS school and a potential Heisman candidate. KState can't sell out with that?

It's Fort Riley Day. We are trying to show support of military families, some of which cannot afford tickets because they have 3 children and have to live day to day off their spouses paycheck, who is off serving in Afghanistan and whatnot. It's for them.  Some Hawk fans just don't know get it...

Uh, try again. They have a separate deal for the military members. For the public, its still 18.75 a ticket.

No, no, no, I actually am serious. What was the biggest complaint I heard? People not wanting to spend $60 for a ticket that wasn't part of the season ticket plan and was off-campus against a crappy team. Do you not agree? I know I would hesitate to drop that kind of money, especially in this economy. What other reason is there for the small turnout? A groupon or SOME sort of deal would have helped out attendance.

No one currently associated w/ K-State cares about the turnout at Arrowhead. K-State took the guaranteed money from the deal and ran, and will not be back.

Boycott implies that somebody cared. It surely wasn't a money issue considering K-State just had a record fund raising year. Think more along the lines of complete apathy.

So you're just going to ignore it? Because it literally was just 3 days ago. Its not like this happened years ago.

Yes, it was a turd that Prince, Krause & Weffer laid on their way out.

It might have been a crappy plan, but it was still THIS years game with THIS years team and THIS years coach. Are you trying to say that the missing fans were boycotting because in their head, the game didn't exist?
KSU attendance was up.  ISU attendance was down, fyi

You know what they should have done---and I'm completely serious---is a groupon for the KSU-ISU game. Because a turnout like that for a Big 12 conference game is pathetic.

a)  You are trying way too hard on this
b)  KU will only have the opponent fans or Groupon to thank to break 38k at the Memorial Track and Field center
3)  Try woot-off....putting those tickets in a Bag of Crap might work better.

No, no, no, I actually am serious. What was the biggest complaint I heard? People not wanting to spend $60 for a ticket that wasn't part of the season ticket plan and was off-campus against a crappy team. Do you not agree? ^This.

The K-State side was packed. The ISU side was extremely sparse and had a lot of purple sprinkled in.

Dammit!  A ku fan is TRYING to give us marketing pointers, I think he's worth listening to.  Just think of the marketing success that school has had convincing that group of rubes that they have a football program.  If you can pull that off, you've done something spectacular.

Dear dumbass,

I thought Arch_E spelled this out pretty cleary.  Ticket sales had zero impact on the guaranteed million dollars K-State got from this deal.

There was NO INCENTIVE to spend a dollar marketing this game, including it in the season ticket package, or putting forth any investment whatsover to increase attendance that would have cut into our profit margin.  Sure, a full stadium would have looked better on tv and possibly enhanced our homefield advantage, but whether there were 20,000 fans there or 70,000 fans, it didn't have an impact on us one iota financially.

Google is reportedly going to purchase Groupon for $2.5 billion or 100 million KU football tickets.
