Isn't Temple's coach a guy hired from UVa the same year we got RonRon?

Sweet; now the coach just has to go 114-38 over the next 12 years, win 9+ games ten times, and win 11 games 5 times.  Seems like it's pretty much a done deal.

And now Dax is trying to take the shine off of Snyder's coaching accomplishments.  What a pathetic guy he is.

Hall of Fame football coach Barry Switzer once stated, "He's not the coach of the year, he's not the coach of the decade, he's the coach of the century.

Probably the "so called" portion of the phrase.  I realize that the failure of any and all KSU athletic teams is the only thing in the world that brings some peace to your wretched life, I just don"t see why you keep up this charade of being a fan of the teams.

This entire thread is an attack on Snyder.  Admit it, you just can't handle the fact that Snyder is doing a decent job and it is killing you inside.  So, in retaliation, you start BS threads in an attempt to make Snyder's turnaround of the worst program in college football history less impressive.  Stop being such a insolent little bitch and enjoy what should be a nice afternoon following a nice win.   But you can't do that, because KSU's success infuriates you to no ends.      :curse:  <--Dax, following a Cat's win.     :pbj:  <---Dax, watching the Cat's struggle.

Who said anything about coach of the year??

I saw their score pop up.  They beat UConn, a team that was supposedly going to contend for the Big East Title, they still might.   Remember the Big East gave Temple the boot a few years ago, that wasn't thinking about giving them the boot, they gave them the boot.

In addition, as someone who follows the business of college football.   Temple didn't go out and borrow $4 million dollars (a huge amount of money in 1989-1990 for any athletic department to spend) from the Temple Foundation to pay assistant coaches, and they certainly don't have a multi-multi millionaire Rancher/ADM board member and a multi-multi millionaire grain mill operator stepping up with millions more dollars just a couple of years later.

So yes, if the trend continues it perfectly applicable to consider that we MIGHT be seeing a NEW greatest turnaround of all time.

But then again, for the average or in jt's case the above average powerespect type.  Any such discussion is an immediate attack on all things K-State and thus an attack on their self esteem.

Please continue to meltdown King of all Powertards.

Yeah, borrowing that money was such a stupid thing to do.  If only they could have realized some sort of return on their investment... And rich people donating money to college athletic departments?  Those bastards!!

Never said that borrowing the money was dumb and never said there was anything wrong with boosters donating money.    But there was a reason why Wefald then laid down the law that the athletic department would never again be allowed to borrow money from the Foundation under his watch, but then again, this is all way over your little King of all Powertards head.

And of course you would be responding like you are . . . you just can't handle any criticism of K-State, even when there isn't any.

The point is .  . . Al Golden is doing a great job in the face of all odds and not getting anything that resembles the "bend over backwards and then some" financial backing that Snyder got.   After that, the stories are mutually exclusive on every level.  Just trying put it in a perspective that your dumbass little powerespect mind could attempt to comprehend.

There are a lot of similarities, but I disagree.  It's easier to recruit to Blacksburg VA than MHK, and KSU was bar none the worst major conference program in the nation when Snyder took over.

There are a lot of similarities, but I disagree.  It's easier to recruit to Blacksburg VA than MHK, and KSU was bar none the worst major conference program in the nation when Snyder took over.

Va Tech wasn't even in a BCS conference when Beamer took over.
Well, duh.  The BCS didn't exist back then.  ;)

You know what I meant, though.  Va Tech was an independent when Beamer took over.

OK dax lets see you put your money where your mouth is: I bet you 100 American dollars that Temple will NOT win 10+ games this year and will NOT make a BCS game in the next 15 years.

Sure, why not.   But LOL . . . by saying "put your money where your mouth is", that implies that I have stated that what is going on at Temple WILL BE called the greatest coaching job of all time.   Your statement also implies that I have said that Temple will win a specific amount of games, and that Temple WILL go to a BCS bowl in a specific period of time.    I have said none of those things.   But I'll take the bet anyway.  WTH.

Pexikan . . . than don't read the thread, it's not that f_cking hard.

With TCU joining the Big East in 2012 you still have one more year for your beloved Temple Owls to make a BCS bowl, so I guess it IS technically a bit early to get your measurements.  Put that $100 into gold or have Jeffy bury it in his yard for Dec 2011!

Temple's Al Golden has been offered the Miami coaching job and is expected to accept it, but the deal has not been finalized yet, a source confirmed on Sunday.

The 41-year-old Golden spent five seasons at Temple, transforming the Owls from a program that was 1-11 in his first season to winning 19 games in his past two seasons at the Philadelphia school.

Just that your opinion isn't as right as you think it is.  Golden may turn out to be fantastic but his hire is high risk.

I'm pulling hard for Kirby to do well with this hire.  You never know when a former EMAW is going to help us out.  The more EMAWs in power the better.

e.g.

1. Guthridge throwing us Mike Evans.
2. DeLoss saving us from mid-majordom.

I'm sure there are more.

Miami needed to make an instant splash with this hire to keep that awful fan base interested.  They went with a SLTH.  As much as I hated the idea of Golden at k-state, he would have been a better fit here than there.  I don't like Leach either but he is a better fit there than here.  I think almost anyone they hired would have been better for what Miami needs right now.  Malzhan would have been better, hell RP woud have been better for injecting the instant energy and buzz they need.  He's going to need to win quickly.

There is no such thing as a "no risk" hire. Miami could have gotten several coaches with less risk than Golden. Mike Gundy, Mike Leach, Jim Harbaugh, and Kyle Whittingham all would have better odds for success at Miami.

I'll jump to j_rake's side here.  They all have MUCH better facilities, more money, and better alumni/fan bases.  All Miami has is a name and a recruiting base.  However, they are way behind U of F and FSU, and quickly dropping to UCF and USF territory.

With Harbaugh, it's not about where he's at, but where he can end up. There's a good chance that Rich Rod could be fired at season's end, and if he stays in 2011 and turns in another stinker, he's gone. Michigan is a better job than Miami.

Whittingham has done an amazing job at Utah. The excitement of competing with the big boys in the Pac-10 will keep him interested for a while, at least until a top 10 school (no longer Miami) ponies up the cash to bring him in.

Gundy has a great gig at Oklahoma State and an oil tycoon giving him everything he wants. At Miami, he'd likely take a paycut since they are poor, and they surely wouldn't give him anything in the way of job security once he arrived.

The other problem is this: Randy Shannon, for as much as he sucked on the field, did raise the bar at Miami in terms of player conduct and academics. There have been very few, if any, player arrests at Miami over the last few years. Shannon got rid of the thugs, and the Canes have never been better in the classroom. While the hardcore fans embrace the thugs and want Miami to win at all costs, the administration has made it clear that they are perfectly happy with 8 or 9 wins and a team that's competing for ACC championships.

Problem is, winning 8 or 9 games at Miami isn't as easy as it once looked.

There's a good chance that Rich Rod could be fired at season's end, and if he stays in 2011 and turns in another stinker, he's gone. Michigan is a better job than Miami. I agree that Harbaugh is holding out for Michigan, but Miami could have waited to see if Rich Rod was fired before hiring Golden.

Whittingham has done an amazing job at Utah. The excitement of competing with the big boys in the Pac-10 will keep him interested for a while, at least until a top 10 school (no longer Miami) ponies up the cash to bring him in. Whittingham is winning despite being at Utah, not because of it. Why would he not jump to Miami? It's not like it would be harder for him to leave Miami for a top 10 job than it would be to leave Utah.

Gundy has a great gig at Oklahoma State and an oil tycoon giving him everything he wants. At Miami, he'd likely take a paycut since they are poor, and they surely wouldn't give him anything in the way of job security once he arrived. If there is anything that Gundy does not have, it's job security. He was on the hot seat before this season started because OSU was expected to be bad. Most coaches actually have to turn in a poor performance before the seat gets hot.

I never said that winning is easy at Miami. I do believe it is easier there than it is at Stanford, OSU, and Utah, though.

Why would Miami wait to hire Harbaugh when Golden, their top choice, was already available?  :dunno:

I'll jump to j_rake's side here.  They all have MUCH better facilities, more money, and better alumni/fan bases.  All Miami has is a name and a recruiting base.  However, they are way behind U of F and FSU, and quickly dropping to UCF and USF territory.

Well Golden seems like a likely candidate to take them to that territory. Miami really needed to hire a proven coach.

Miami should have hired RichRod.

He would be a home run hire at just about any school.

Miami needed Golden more than Golden needed Miami.

Golden had the Penn State job on lock down. He just didn't want to wait another 10 years to get it.

This guy knows binders:

Sitting on Kirby Hocutt's desk in his University of Miami office is a 300-page, four-pound binder with the title Deserve Victory.

The tome's author? Al Golden, who was introduced Monday evening as the Hurricanes' new football coach.
