The 2008 one was so embarrasing (year after beasley/walker)

1)  Wasn't televised
2)  We didn't think we were going to be good
3)  We weren't going into the season as a final 4 favorite
4)  Hadn't just come off of an Elite 8 appearance
5)  Weren't part of the E16 at the time

etc...

We need to start a theme ourselves, and not the let the university decide it.

How about instead of a black out, we have a black-tie out? Everyone wears suits, brings cigars, top hats, etc. VERY elite.

The thing that makes me feel better at least is that Frank is the kind of coach that knows how important these things are to recruiting and will probably be very interested in what they are planning for it.

If the athletic dept staff looks at this as they should, which is that it's about 10% for the fans, 90% for recruits, that will help immensely.

Some things I really hope we do:
- Not the Wabash. Looks kind of cool from far away, completely embarrassing during espn closeups.
- No band, please. Nothing but hip hop.
- No Wyatt. Go get somebody cool and half-way recognizable to emcee this thing.
- Invite back old players. Whoever, but def Mike and Bill and have them talk about the millions of dollars they have now because they went to K-State.
- Get the hottest women possible everywhere we can. Only the cuttest classy cats. The idea is quality over quantity. Put hot women all around the recruits serving them drinks.
- Dim the lights, badass highlight videos, shoutouts from famous people, awesome frank martin speech, adorable pullen/samuels speech, lazers, doom logo's, elite eight banner unveiling (can we get some banners, please?), chanting recruits names when we show them on the jumbotron, dunk contest and call it good.

Basshunter

Madness in Manhattan is Back
Last week we announced that Madness in Manhattan will be returning and we are excited to be one of six schools nationally to be spotlighted during ESPNU's coverage of the annual start of basketball season. We are very fortunate to have our basketball programs under the leadership of Coach Martin and Coach Patterson and we look forward to this opportunity to showcase our institution and programs to the nation. The event will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, October 15, which is the evening after our football game against the Jayhawks in Lawrence, and we hope you pack Bramlage. We are planning a few surprises for you that night so mark your calendars to attend!

http://www.kstatesports.com/blog/2010/09/letter-from-ad-john-currie----september-21.html

I'm really worried that this and a couple of quick ads at football games will be the only advertising for Madness.

I'm still unsure about how important midnight madnesses are.  KU puts on the lamest lame-fest I've ever seen at Lame night at the Phog and they are always signing highly rated recruits.  Are they getting these guys in spite of Lame Night or because of it?  *boom, roasted.

Have you ever watched one of these hosted by a big time basketball school?    They're all really stupid, I've never seen one that wasn't stupid.  Our goal needs to get the place filled up and loud.   Also, the students need to pretend to know what to do during those times when they don't know what they're supposed to be doing.

Also, if you think the night will be complete without some cheesy laser light show (think giant powercat on gym floor), you're nuts.

I listed a laser show in my list of requirements bro. I'm all about that crap. I'd be down with passing out purple glow sticks at the doors and blasting sandstorm while everybody goes nuts. We  should cover Willie in glow in the dark paint and have him run out and do the k-s-u- chant.

I used to run this little game up on the concourse before womens games where old people would wad up a piece of paper with their info on it and sit in a expensive awesome leather recliner and try to make a basket into a bucket a few feet away. Then later we would pick out a name for a winner. EVERY SINGLE TIME, I'd go find the winner and they were assuming they had just won the expensive awesome leather recliner. Instead, I'd hand them a $50 furniture store gift certificate and explain to them that they had not actually won the expensive awesome leather recliner, at which time these sweet, gentle souls would give me a look like I had just canceled Christmas.

Angel Rodriguez, a long-time target of the Kansas State basketball team, will make a visit to campus this weekend and take in the Wildcats’ Madness in Manhattan event Friday evening.

The 5-foot-11 point guard from Miami is rated as a three-star recruit by rivals.com, and shares close ties to former players Denis Clemente and Luis Colon. He is also close with current big man Freddy Asprilla.

His AAU coach, Art Alvarez, said Rodriguez is looking forward to the festivities. And if Frank Martin deems them exciting enough to show off to a recruit, they should be pretty decent, right?

Alvarez has said that Rodriguez is leaning heavily toward K-State in the recruiting process, and could make a commitment to the Wildcats shortly after seeing Manhattan up close.

Students also have the opportunity to win $10,000 and front row seats to men's basketball games this season.  Students with the most school spirit will be selected and then voted on by the crowd.  The winner receives front row seats to every men's basketball game this season and take a half-court shot to win $10,000.  Students will be selected by arriving early, wearing purple, bringing signs and being loud during the event.

Guys, we need to stop acting like KSU is cool and/or successful and/or bigtime and just embrace our university's hokeyness. That way when this year's MM features bobbing for apples and purple gunny sack races we won't be disappointed. Heard the ag college is setting up a petting zoo outside OOD for the recruits to check out, confirm?
