However, because of the color of my skin, gender, education level, and career choice, I stand to gain from this financially.  Not worth it  tho.

I'm really sad. See you bros later. I feel like I have to defend people who claim to follow Jesus who voted for this man for President, but I don't know how. Please know the real Jesus preached forgiveness, peace, and was a champion of the marginalized. Read Matthew 5 for an example of that. The beatitudes had the message that his kingdom was for those on the edges. Sometimes people make mistakes, massive ones that will probably wreck the economy and start a couple wars. Sorry for all the times I've ever PI'd anyone on here. I feel guilt for times when I am not kind to people. I'll be back in my corner of the Royals thread until 2020.

At least Frank White is gonna win.

And if we don't extend Duffy I will go into a legit booze fueled depression.

I mean, it will come back, but a part of me thinks a ton of Trump voters cheer that because they don't have anything invested in the market, and a significant amount of their anger is focused at Wall Street.

This is a fantastic buying opportunity. Don't be stupid by passing it up.

However, because of the color of my skin, gender, education level, and career choice, I stand to gain from this financially.  Not worth it  tho.

Pete I have 2 daughters. I know you're a dad of a girl also. I am terribly sad they are growing up in a world where Donald Trump is going to be president of the USA

I have a 7 year old who has been absolutely entranced by this election since we took her to the caucuses in February. I had to beg her to go to bed at 9 PM. I'm going to break her heart in the morning. She'll be fine, we'll all be fine. We survived 8 years of Regan, we'll be fine with 4 years of Donald.

David Axelrod is right, and I was talking with a friend about this earlier.

We're talking race, class, elitism, etc.  All of these things are a part of the equation.

But this isn't unique to us.  This is happening all over Europe.  This is a backlash against globalization.  This is a backlash against technology replacing workers.

I'm not sure how you put the lid back on that pot.  What happens in four years when there's no wall, there's still Obamacare, and those manufacturing jobs haven't come back?  Who will you turn to then?

The low light of the night but the absolutely perfect symbol for this election happened about 90 minutes ago. This is the woman who set up a private server in her basement and later a bathroom closet to handle all manner of classified information, just to illegally dodge FOIA requests. This is the person who set up the Clinton Foundation as a SuperPAC to accept illegal pay-to-play contributions from foreign entities in exchange for State Department access. This is the woman who conspired to lie, cheat, and steal this nomination from Bernie Sanders. This is the woman who started the Kenya narrative against Obama in 2008. This is the woman who stood on the tarmac and told the family members of Benghazi victims that it was due to a YouTube video, while privately telling her daughter it was terrorism. This is the woman who took the hatchet to Bill's numerous sexual assault victims while claiming to be a champion for women's rights.

The Clintons are horrible, corrupt people and absolutely deserve to be flushed away as quickly as possible. It IS the silver lining of a Trump win. Do not feel bad for her. Rejoice.

Matthews has been very entertaining.  Maddows has also done a very good job tip toeing that line between covering an election and giving her well known view point.

Brian Williams in the other hand.  :flush:  You can really tell he's been out of the spotlight for awhile and he's pressing to make a splash.

Hillary losing is the silver lining in all of this.

Not really my point, I'm talking about someone having their life's work flushed down the toilet by the biggest joke in American political history.

Rejoice.

Pretty much all of that is bullshit though, just political bull shitty talk. She is by most accounts a decent woman who has done a lot for people in her 45 years of public life. She got herself caught in the Washington political machine and if she's guilty of something, no one is perfect after all, its that she allowed her political aspirations define who she was.

No everything I said is fact. Start googling.

This result is genuinely making me sad.

However, because of the color of my skin, gender, education level, and career choice, I stand to gain from this financially.  Not worth it  tho.

I am feeling a little low right now.  I'll rally, but this is disheartening for me personally.

We survived 8 years of Regan, we'll be fine with 4 years of Donald.

of course we'll be fine. but this is a weird day

I don't think any of that matters at all. If you want to talk about what's the biggest indictment of the collective character of this country I'd rather point to the millions of people who voted for the first presidential candidate in the history of the country who has literally moved manufacturing jobs overseas.   This is true but the government made it more lucrative to do so.  I think, or I hope Trump's plan is to change some of those policies so that it is no longer as lucrative to move manufacturing to other countries or make it more of an even playing field here in the U.S. when it comes to manufacturing.  I don't know how or if he has any plans in place for sure but in my optimistic heart this is what I'm hoping for.

I also cant believe you fucktards are genuinely concerned about these so-called social accomplishments being rolled back. GMAFB

This country is seriously broken at the federal level, our economy is a hoopty with flat tires, our foreign policy is a disaster, median wages are stagnant if not in decline, the sitting president doesn't enforce laws he doesn't agree with, we don't have a clue who lives here or how they got here, the deficit grew $13T, medicare obamacare and social security are on the road to insolvency, everbody hates each other, and you genuinely believe trump is going to start off by interning muslims, stoning gays, and taking the shoes off women.

this is just so crazy, no matter how unlikeable or shady Clinton is

Quote
Clinton won only 65 percent of Latino voters, compared to Obama’s 71 percent four years ago. She performed this poorly against a candidate who ran on a program of building a wall along America’s southern border, a candidate who kicked off his campaign by calling Mexicans rapists.

Clinton won 34 percent of white women without college degrees. And she won just 54 percent of women overall, compared to Obama’s 55 percent in 2012. Clinton, of course, was running against a candidate who has gloated on film about grabbing women “by the pussy.”

I was very surprised how strongly one side of my family was in support of Trump, despite their heritage.  It was in California so it didn't matter anyway, but still surprising.  Of course they've been here legally for a long time.  One of my best friends who is half Mexican voted Trump, his union worker Mexican dad voted Trump, brother voted Clinton.

My trash man from Guatemala does not like the flood of illegals from Mexico and said he was voting for trump. He came here legally. Said it had nothing to do with race. Uncle Tomas?

Yep. I'm interested to know how he thinks Donald Trump or any other president will stop illegal immigration. Mexicans started emigrating here in 1850.

I saw a few things that made it sound like Trump may increase immigration.  He won't be able to enact anything to slow inflow/deport.  However, the policies he could enact may hurt their economy enough to increase the incentive to come here.

this is just so crazy, no matter how unlikeable or shady Clinton is

-Obama was 14 points better in rural Pennsylvania than Hillary did, 12 points in rural Wisconsin. That makes it pretty tough to just chalk it up to racists.
-The Democratic turnout in the metro area of Pennsylvania was higher than 2012
-Mitt Romney will end up with more popular votes than Trump did.

The bottom line is this was not an affirmation of Donald Trump but a repudiation of Hillary Clinton.

While Trump certainly won racists, they aren't enough to give him the election.

Agreed on Hillary.  The Dem's tried to run an uninspiring, flawed candidate through a largely uncontested primary and got beat for it.

My take on the election is, middle class hard working people are tired of career politicians who say they are going to work for the people but just take their party agenda and shove it down our throats and don't really care what the people want.   He is a business man, he did market research and found out what the consumer was looking for and gave it to them and they ate it up. Trump listened to them and threw it out there and said this is what I'm basing my campaign on.

Most of the people who voted Trump don't really think the is wonderful, most just think at least he isn't a puppet for the party and will do things that need to be done and doesn't care what the politicians think.  They feel he is going to work for the people.

I don't know if I believe that or don't I have the wait and see approach to this presidency.

Do I believe he will build a wall?  No  I don't even believe he believes he will build a wall.  He said it because that is what his market research said the people wanted.

I only went two pages in and that primarily is discussing Obama wanting to enact amnesty. But I'm not sure how you or anyone else can accuse him of not enforcing the law when his administration has deported more than any other administration. Those both can't be true and mine is an indisputable fact, so where did that leave us?

Better yet and to my question, what does Barack Obama or anyone else deporting tens millions of people have to do with them continuing to come into the country? A wall won't do it either. Perhaps a mile wide fiery moat filled with gators across the entire border?

Just tax all currency wired to Mexico.  It's pretty mumped up and I'm not advocating for it, but it could be an option that, through discussion, could lead us to better more realistic options.

I can report that in the insular and ideologically-harmonious world of higher education, today is a national day of mourning. The mood at the law school today was what I can only imagine the nation's mood was when JFK was assassinated. My professor today stopped talking with 20 minutes left to go, said "Well, I'm going home to drink," and walked out of the room. Very interesting to observe the confusing and world-view-subverting effect on a group of people who live their lives in a neat little bubble, out of touch with the thoughts and feelings of common folk.

You need to read further down into the timeline.

As for deportations, they changed the definition of deportation to include simple repatriation of those caught just this side of the border, like turned around and sent back to mexico. Those were not counted as deportations in previous administrations from what I understand.
