Sukhi's Indian Street Wraps

I really enjoy the Chicken Tikka Masala while mrs. dave likes the Veggie Samosa. Both have good spice and are easy to eat on the go. The Chicken Vindaloo wrap was somewhat bland. These are a staple in our freezer.

GRADE: A. Give them a try!

Caribean Cowboy On Fire! BBQ Sauce

I usually love spicy things. I guess I was used to the spicy BBQ sauces from the big names like Gates Extra Hot, etc. being just the right spiciness. So I got the hottest level of this one to try out. NO! TOO HOT! Turns out they have Bhut Jolokia chiles in this. Probably not very much of them but enough. It burns my entire mouth off every time I eat it. I'm about half way through the stuff and it always starts out good and about 2 minutes into chowing down I can't take it anymore.

GRADE: C. Probably great for those that can "take the heat" but was a bit hot for me.

The mild and medium are really good on pork and sometimes chicken.  I like it, but don't use it often.  Solid B.

Gortons Fish Sticks

I used to exclusively buy Sea Queen Fish Sticks until recently I purchased Gortons by mistake.  Wow! What a difference! The Gortons Fish Sticks remain extremely crunchy on the outside which perfectly compliments the soft, fishy center.  Sea Queen and others sometimes result in a flimsy, somewhat squishy stick, which is not as pleasing to my palate.

GRADE:  A-.  A little pricey for the 30 pack, but worth it for the robust flavor and crunchy outer layer.

They have them at Hyvee, Whole Foods and Natural Grocers here. We try to get them at Whole foods because they are 50 cents cheaper than Hyvee and we can also get the 10% case discount if we buy them by the box (I think there are 8 in a box).

My former employer bottles this. It's an Oleoresin Capsicum extract that makes it so hot. About a year ago the Caribbean Cowboy called up saying his On Fire wasn't spicy enough. So I had him come in to taste test different levels of spice (cause there was no rough ridin' way I was going to). He chose the one I maxed out with the extract. There is 22 fl oz of extract in a 52 gallon batch, while the hot only has 12 fl oz. It was ridiculous

I talk about these quite a bit on this blog, but i would be remiss if i didn't bring it up in this thread.  Wow.  If you want a one way ticket to tijuana (Mexico), then go to your local grocer and pickup a pack of these babies and pop them in the microwave for 2 minutes and 15 seconds.  Don't forget your sunscreen because where you're going is HOT.

Now get to the store fast!  Andale andale!

Abe, this is a great insider food pro tip.

Review: Do they taste good? Sorta. If you like sardines. Are they good for you? I think so. Do you want to eat them by themselves or with crackers? Crackers prolly.

Grade: 3 ego waffles out of 5

Those are only edible with saltine crackers. I'd give them a 1 out of 5 if you are eating them plain. 3 sounds about right with crackers, though.
You have to review the crackers used as well. They must be pretty awesome to bring 1 up to a 3.

Starbucks Tomato & Cheese Savory Square

Part of the new Starbucks La Boulange menu this savory square is like a flat piece of croissant with some tomato and cheese in the middle. I know what you're thinking, "STEVE DAVE THIS IS ONE OF THOSE SHITTY SUBWAY FLATTIZAS!". Hold on, it basically is except it's small and doesn't make you feel like a piece of trash for eating it. It's pretty good too. Doesn't really have pizza spices so it just tastes like bread and tomato and a tiny bit of cheese. They are also red hot and you cannot put them in your mouth for about 10 minutes after getting them.

Grade: B+

Actually it seems like it's not too bad. Lots of ingredients which is usually bad but in this case they are almost all natural things. I would eat the crap out of those if I was hungry. Men should generally avoid soy, but it's fine in small doses, and 90% of the rest of the world uses tons of soy so it's hard to avoid if you eat things not from america.

I probably wouldn't eat those just because it has enriched wheat flour which is like bread with all the good for you stuff taken out. BUT, it still has good stuff like onions and tomatoes and garlic and herbs, so nutrition grade = C. I'd eat it if I was very hungry/in a rush.

Review: Ok, so it looks weird. Nobody is really sure what it is, or how it's made. But the mystery adds to the flavor. Of which it really has none. But add Triscuits or pineapple to it and its not so bad and will give you huge sexy muscles.

Ella's Organic Packets (Spinach, Apple & Rutabega shown)

Crack cocaine for little babys. They cannot get enough of these things. Once they learn they can grab them and suck them down on their own like a capri sun they will chug them in like 1/2 of a second. If they see them at the store they will lose their crap wanting one right then. If you put them in the cart they will just become more infuriated because they don't understand that you are actually buying them for them. They want to eat them right that second. Pretty damn expensive at almost $2 a pop.

typical day:

breakfast:
-full fat greek yogurt (flavor: plain  :sdeek:)
-an entire banana  :sdeek:
-milk
breakfast seems to be the meal where babys love to just binge on food

lunch:
-usually like a tortilla with some cheese and chicken or black beans (all beans picked out and thrown on floor)
-mixed vegetables (all on the floor, zero in mouth)
-cheerios for dessert (babys love cheerios, almost as much as Ella's Organic Packets)
-milk

snack:
-graham cracker with laughing cow or almond butter or sun butter or a string cheese stick
-milk

dinner:
-a small portion of whatever I'm eating (chance of it being eaten about 25%)
-sweet potato disks I made at home which is a pain in the ass but if you make like 50 million of them at once and freeze them it's not so bad. flavor options are cummin and chili chowder or cinnamon (sweet or savory!)
-pea puree mixed 50/50 with apple sauce
-milk

I think this is typical stuff for most kids. at least most I've been around.

oh my god. that seems really good but maybe my parents fed me better than i remember. i don't think nutrition was a huge priority in the late 80's/early 90's though

I think it's just different now. I also ate lucky charms and mac n' cheese for like 90% of my caloric intake as a little kid. I think you get child protective services called on you if you do that today.

This is probably why 8 year olds are better at twittering than me, at the same age I was eating rolly pollies and throwing rocks at friends

Post by: Dugout DickStone on May 21, 2014, 03:00:25 PM
Is that what kids eat these days? Or just your kids? I grew up chugging apple juice and chowing on sugar cereal  :frown:

typical day:

-milk

I think this is typical stuff for most kids. at least most I've been around.

sd menu grade: A+
baby menu grade: C-

black beans drive babies crazy, and it will for 4 years at least.  pro-tip, when they won't eat, roll out the black beans.

GRADE: A. Give them a try!

what store would one acquire those from?

They have them at Hyvee, Whole Foods and Natural Grocers here. We try to get them at Whole foods because they are 50 cents cheaper than Hyvee and we can also get the 10% case discount if we buy them by the box (I think there are 8 in a box).

These are 8 Weight Watchers Points Plus points per wrap, which is about the same as a Subway club sandwich on wheat.

They're not quite a cookie, but they're not really all that healthy either. Good way to trick health-conscious parents who are too lazy to do the proper research aka Nicname's dad. I liked them though, haven't had any in over 10 years (that I can remember).

Melina's Mexican Salsa (Hot)

Probably the best salsa available retail. It's hot (says so on the jar and my mouth confirms). It tastes fresh. Doesn't have any oil in it like some salsa's that have that strange oily flavor. Downside is that it's a little wet so you have to be careful and not flood your taco or nachos with too much moisture.

Grade: A+ (best salsa grade for best salsa)

Quaker Oat Chewy Chocolate Chip granola bars. My breakfast about 4 mornings a week.
Grade: A (if I ranked it any lower, I'd feel like a lazy dumbass for not eating something different, and then a couple of posters would make fun of me in the other thread.)

you don't make your own tortillas clams?  wow.

But hey while we at it, let's talk store bought salsa.  I like Mrs. Renfro's stuff.  Tons of different flavors and some have that little bite of spice that most other grocery store salsas lack.

I got the GF a Tortilla Press and cast Iron Skillet for Christmas, unfortunately she is not very good at making tortillas.   :frown:

I think it's actually around $15. I don't really care or hassle her about it but I was shocked when I picked some up for her.

I said it is the best one there is. You don't need a grade because the grade doesn't matter. All other nut based spreads would get a lower grade than Nutella.

You would be even more amazed at how great they can taste when you don't dump them into a bowl of what is basically curdled ejaculate.

'sclams, I noticed this immediately when you posted it. This is Mrs. WonderMeal's favorite. We have tried every kind of TJ's salsa many times, and Chipotle Garlic salsa always ranks as super delish. We currently have 5 jars of it in our pantry, no joke. I just counted.
