Let's limit it to say people ages 15-80. I am a strong believer that this is above 75% but some people think I have lost my marbles and say it's less that 50%. I talk like a sailor and sometimes I feel bad about it. Thank you.

65%.

what does "regular basis" mean? every other word? once a day?
i think cussing shows your lack of iq. plenty of other words that you can use to show the same emotion, imo.
-
I rarely cuss. Define regular basis. I might cuss when bbs'n, but outside of that, it is rare.
-
when drunk
-
I've got an amazing self-monitoring system. Won't cuss around old people, cuss a fair amount when not around old people. I don't even have to think about it, it just happens.

Same. but add in people I don't know at all in the former.

IMO, I regularly use a wider variety of words than most of the people I work with or interact with. However, I also curse more than them. SPICE OF LIFE!

similar. Also, people seem to be surprised when they get to know me how much i cuss.

Back in the day, OK_Cat used the word "monkeys" to express frustration with not knowing how to erase his ekocat tweetdeck column.

that doesn't mean that you're supposed to remember every (awesome) post about monkeys.

Cursing makes you cool. So to answer the question with a question of my own, what % of people are cool?
-
I peel out like everywhere so that I still am cool, but don't need to cuss.
-
Its embarrassing to cuss..
-
I once had a colleague tell me that raising your voice and/or swearing to prove a point only proves you have the ability to lose control of a situation.

Which university does your colleague put on recruit parties for?

There are entire industries that have been built on, an continue to run largely on, raising voices and cussing at crucial times.

There are 2 types of leaders that cuss and raise their voice at crucial times to get things done. The first type does it to make a point, but they still do it in a controlled manner. This usually results in people getting stuff done and being around for the next crucial time. The second type does it because they are emotional, but they write it off as OK because they think that by showing emotion stuff gets done and they've seen it work for others before. The second type don't realize that everyone can see they are doing it out of emotion and fear, which results in them having less confidence in the manager and the ability to get the job done because they see the panic in their leaders. Organizations go :flush: in a hurry when they've had the success with core leaders that are the first type, then they get replaced with the second type. I've seen it happen firsthand twice.

I have a great filter. When needing to behave myself, no cursing. But when the filter is not applied, I have a Sailor's mouth, so I'm told.
-
Depends on the setting. At work, pretty much never. At the gym or bars, pretty much every other word. During Cats' games, quite a bit, especially if it's close.

Well y-l_a, my gym isn't full of blue hairs. It's full of great smelling, better looking, young rich people.

My cuss words are mainly adjectives.

Television and film are greatly improved by cuss words.

Also in the filter crowd.
My customer the other day: "We need to have a rough ridin' talk about your rough ridin' language."
We get along well so filter is turned to off (for both of us apparently).

cool story :flush:
-
Around...
Old people - almost never (unless it is an old dude that swears a lot)
Kids - even closer to never (won't even curse at cat games with kids around)
Class - sometimes (it is fun to throw in a well timed swear every now and then)
Work - depends on the work environment, but this is where i'm the most sailorish
Drunk with Bros - a lot
any other time in life - rarely
-
Kids - even closer to never (won't even curse at cat games with kids around)
-
I usually get on my friends about cursing around kids. If I were a parent of a young kid, I wouldn't want my kid asking me what those words meant. However, babies can't talk so I like to throw in a "Shut that rough ridin' baby up!" to any random breast feeding mother of a crying baby.
-
I normally only cuss about people who are rough ridin' retards at work. I'm rarely around kids. But when I visit my family, I'm constantly almost cussing around my nieces and nephews when talking to my brother. Also, was riding my bike the other day and got stuck behind a school bus next to the park. Was waiting for it to move and decided to weave around it. Then a woodchuck ran in front of me. Then I yelled "crap" and almost fell over in front of a bunch of kids who all thought that sequence was pretty funny.
-
I think yelling "forget you!" with anger at someone is more clever than saying "eff you." (Yes, I have the site word filter on at work.) And I'm always trying hard to look clever to my friends.

So are you the rapey kind of stalker or losery? Just wondering what kind of preparation I should be making, TIA.

I say Josh dammit instead of Goddamnit because its more shocking and because josh is an bad person.

We're not courteous tho. :frown:
-
Depends on the situation. If I'm really into something, or realize I forgot to do something important I cuss. Outside of that not very often.

Washington's not gonna stay least.

This blog is bullshit.

I'm baffled as to how Massachusetts can be the 2nd least likely to swear but the 2nd least courteous. Massachusetts being 2nd on the non swearing is garbage, pretty big lol for Texas for also appearing on that list. I have two interns from Ohio and not only don't they swear but they do that super annoying and cheesy have dumb alternative words for swears thing, so WASPy.
I would think states with large populations of WASPy churchgoers, the plains states, would be least likely to curse
-
you either don't know what wasp means, or you don't know where they live.

-
yeah lol at texas on that list. maybe in the really baptisty parts, but in the cities everyone's cussing up a storm.
Personally do my best not to cuss around kids, but it's more about trying to not look like a barbarian around other people rather than ruin some sort of societal ideal of childhood innocence. They'll hear some vile stuff at school pretty early on (there's always some trash parent that has their kid cussing by kindergarten that ends up on the school bus with everyone). I cuss at football games a lot so I've dropped a few before and then noticed the presence of a kid nearby and felt pretty .
My filter is pretty damned strong around old people and my mother. Around my father or friends it's sailor time. Work depends on the situation and my relationship with the coworker or boss.

sarcastic way of saying the plains states don't have large populations of wasps.

Old people / Parents: Almost never.
Kids: Never.
Friends: All the time.
Colleagues: All the time.
Supervisors: Every now and then.
Those who work for me: Every now and then during casual conversation. On a casion when briefing and/or lecturing to ensure the point is driven home. I'm in a different line of work than most. Throwing 4 syllable words isn't going to impress anyone or get people's ass in gear, but dropping a few F bombs can ensure the gravity of the situation and explicitly convey my thoughts with no chance of misinterpretation.

don't be jealous of my pool game, benji.
-
I cuss on a regular basis when driving in traffic alone.
-
after watching big lebowski, pulp fiction, and end of watch, my use of the F word has increased dramatically
-
Eight rough ridin' years in the Navy. Don't be such a sensitive bitch.
-
On a casion
:D

Guys one of our VP's resigned the other day. Email went out and one colleague calls another into his office to show him the email. They were both quite pleased. One of them says says "Fuckin' A man! rough ridin' A!" :D
I loved that.

 maybe my favorite one yet

I have an automatic filter, when I am around my grandparents or work I don't curse like at all. When I am around my bros or when that person doesn't know how to rough ridin' drive and you about hit them because they are being rough ridin' stupid and they probably shouldn't have their license anymore, I usually curse more.
-
I cuss all the gosh darn time.
-
Mrs. Gooch and I were flying first class (#fanningbrag) to Cancun and damn near drank the plane dry of Vodka. In our drunken state we were discussing how much the wings on the new Boeing 777 bend in flight (Mrs. Gooch is an airplane nerd). I may have used the term eff-ton 2 or 20 times. Some poors (non first class) in the row behind us did not appreciate it. They really need something more than a curtain to separate US from them.
-
that is a great story on about 6 or 7 different levels Gooch
-
im pretty good between work/parents/etc and with friends. night and day usually.
-
I wait for whomever I am talking to swear first, then its game on
-
there is a lot of variance in how much people swear. i'd say only 10% are people who never cuss.
i swear a ton, but i like to think that i exercise good tact unless i'm pretty drunk. i really enjoy sophisticated old people who can talk for several hours without a cuss word and then blow the doors off the conversation with a "i don't give a crap about what that rough ridin' coward says...."
