Time for Rovelto to step aside...

Utah didn't beat a single team that finished the year ranked in the top 25 and had two wins against teams that finished with winning records (UCLA & USC, both 8-5). And, they lost by 14+ points to three of the four teams they played that did finish the year ranked.

I think they'll finish in the upper third, but seems odd to me to predict them as the champs given that they'll be in a new conference, playing in new stadiums, dealing with different travel scenarios, etc. coupled with the fact that they weren't particularly great last year.

K-State doesn't have anyone entered in the Men's decathlon at the Phillips. What is going on?

Don't know about that, but this is nice

Not sure what happened (injury, etc.), but Jones missed the last month of the season (5-6 games or so).

I have IRL looked up housing prices in suburban Toronto. Vancouver would be better, but it's too expensive.

Taking into account inflation, the cost of the football upgrades alone goes from $192 million (2012 - $75m; 2015 - $65m; 2020 - $52m) to $250 million. Probably at least another $50ish million in inflation for the other upgrades and you're approaching $500 million without factoring in any other elements.

We are No. 36 in RPI entering this weekend against No. 40 WVU. Road games against top 40 RPI teams count as Quad 1 games. Then, next week, all three games against BYU are Quad 4 (currently 128 in RPI). Ideally, we grab at least 1 Q1 this weekend and then sweep BYU next week - 1-2 losses against them would hurt us pretty significantly. If we can go 4-2 these last two weeks and then win 1-2 in the Big 12 tourney, I think we're safely in.

Lose any to BYU and get swept by WVU, then it's bubble time and dependent on a semi-deep run in the Big 12 tourney.

So, Murray's brother married Christina Stauffer in 2000. Prior to that, she had been a second unit director on a bunch of movies (Cider House Rules, Magnolia, Wyatt Earp, etc.). Apparently, they met on the set of Groundhog Day, dated for several years and then got married. After they were married, she went back to K-State and got her Vet Med degree in 2008 and then worked at an animal hospital in LA after that.

If she's close to the age of Murray's brother, she would have went back to get that degree in her 50s - kind of crazy to go from making movies in Hollywood to being a vet doctor at that stage of one's life, but good for her.

English comes through with the game winning hit for the second time in the series...

Conference standings becoming a bit more clear - we're now likely to finish somewhere between 5-10. If we can win at least one at WVU next weekend and then possibly sweep the worst team in the league (BYU) at home the following weekend, we should feel pretty good about NCAAs as our RPI is 41 right now.

Despite playing dipshit baseball, we take the lead in the bottom of the 8th. Our All-American closer comes in and walks the bases loaded on 14 pitches. Then, he gets a strike out. Then our 3B makes a game-saving catch by jumping to catch a liner. Then, Neighbors gets to 1-2 on KU's best hitter, throws a perfect breaking ball that isn't called for a strike. Then it gets to 3-2 and he throws another breaking ball that should have been ball 4, but the ump calls it. Then, the KU player goes absolutely apeshit and yells at the ump.

Pete Hughes baseball - never a dull moment.

And, naturally, we finally come through with some clutch hits and take the lead in the bottom of the 8th.

Regardless of the outcome of this game, this series, this season or the future of our head coach, Pete Hughes can lay claim to what might be the dumbest baseball team of all time at any level.

Not once, but twice in a single game, we had runners called out for leaving base too early on tags.

In the first case, with runners on 1st/2nd and one out, our guy hits a deep, but easily caught fly ball to left. Guy on second tags and heads to 3rd. Guy on 1st runs halfway to second, sees the ball caught, and then trots to second. Doesn't even go back to first. There was absolutely zero question on whether the ball was caught. He waited, saw the ball was caught, and then jogged to second. Setting aside wherever the player's brain was, where the hell is the 1st base coach to tell him to get his ass back? Naturally, we challenge the call and waste our last challenge when it's clear as day that he didn't even tag - let alone leave early.

You'd think we'd be on high alert after that play, but not to be outdone, in the seventh, we have a guy on 1st with no outs. Our guy at the plate does his job by hitting a deep fly to center that, once again, was easily caught. The ball was caught at the warning track - again - not a liner, but a high, easily caught fly ball, so our guy on 1st has plenty of time to get to 2nd. But, he takes off early and we have our second monumentally stupid double play in the same game.

While this is undoubtedly the Mt. Everest of our stupidity, we have consistently been idiotic on the base paths during the entire tenure of Hughes and that has cost ourselves countless runs (and games).

In four straight innings in this game, K-State had the tying run at second base and came away empty every time - mostly due to baserunning stupidity.

Just unreal...

Being no-hit by a scrub Nebraska pitcher with a 6+ ERA in 5 IPs/6 appearances that was battered against KU a few weeks ago is... well, let's just call it so Pete Hughes at this point.

On the positive side, at least it wasn't a conference game and Nebraska's RPI (No. 24) is solid.

I cannot fathom how Weber would even begin to operate in this new climate

Whoever gets to sit next to him on the flight to and from Ireland is going to be in for the best 8 hours of their lives

It should be Sean Snyder

My last direct encounter with Robert was at the ISU game in Ames in 2022. We were tailgating with a bunch of ISU friends all day long (was a night game) and around Noon, I saw Robert milling around, doing his usual thing (loads of zip lock bags in his jacket, going from tailgate to tailgate and filling them with food).

I yell out to Robert to get him to come over so that our ISU friends can have this treasured experience. We show Robert the food display and then he starts going through each food item, one-by-one, making the call as to whether or not the food is zip lock bag worthy. And, then he starts critiquing the food in his special way ("next time, if you cook the hamburgers longer so that they don't fall apart, I'll be able to eat more" etc.).

And, after he criticizes most of the food and walks away, our ISU friend says, "Who the hell does that Rainman [redacted] think he is telling us how to cook our food?"

It was delightful.

Weird Robert is very food motivated...

Mike Clark's standing offer was that any time Robert showed up for a baseball game, he'd take him out for dinner afterward.

Is this cultural appropriation?

Yes, there's no level the Irish won't stoop to...

I've watched a fair number of Kugel's games and I don't think his schizophrenia is a good pairing with Self. He scored 20+ five times this year and then had nearly half of his games where he scored 5 points or less.

He's all over the place and I wouldn't think Self would tolerate it too long.
