The Frank quote isnt up yet is it? Or am i missing something?

No, its on the podcast if you listen to it. Wright says, "Coach, looking at the figures, you are about the 10th highest paid coach in the Big 12." Wright asked something to the effect if he thinks that's fair. Franks says, " Well, if people do a little research, they'll see that I am actually last in the in the Big 12."
WOW. GET THIS MAN PAID CURRIE!!!!!!!!!

You can't be racist and like basketball.
Jeff - why is Frank doing this?  If he's unhappy or feels slighted, he should just leave.

if you're a glass half full type, it's obviously a good sign.  he's efforting to be paid at kstate.  he wouldn't bother if he knew he'd leave asap.

I guess I don't see why it's necessary.  How much more money can he get by this method compared to just beating the number 1 team in the country and/or threatening to take his lucrative Miami offer?  Can't be a big difference.  If anything, this just generates more bad blood between curry and frank.

This is what makes me think that there is ALREADY bad blood between Currie and Frank.

We have already heard reports that the stood up to Old Balls and didn't give him many of the "perks" his previous contracts included....I think Currie is trying to show some folks who's the boss.

My theory is he's already good as gone - this is just making the fans not hate him in the process.

a) he's smart enough to know they'll hate him regardless.  b) why would he care?

goddammit.  just when I beginning to feel good/better about this.  if currie thinks it's tough to get donations now, just wait.

is automatic to up and leave is kidding themselves.  Although we LOVE him, and we do, he has baggage.  His language, his temper, the incident with Merriwether, those are not career enders, but the man will bring baggage that not every AD is going to like. Much like Huggs, it took that right opportunity for both he and the school to move.

Oh, and Kirby Hocutt, GTFOOMF.

he has no baggage. stop being delusional.

KSU fans didn't think Huggins would leave either. And if you say you did, you are a f*cking liar.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

all the "martin contract" related threads have the same "huggins to west virginia" feel to them.  goddammit.  he's gone.  all that's missing is a frank martin video from you, fats, and it's practically set in stone.

something i got from this interview was how much Frank loves his kids.  could provide a decent reason for Frank staying at least another yr ala roy williams saying he stayed when he knew kans had collison/heinrich coming back. with pullen, who is like Martin's own son, senior yr looming this could be in play as a reason for staying then perhaps he could bolt after that like williams did when he knew he didnt have a good core coming back.

I must say that I love the "Frank Martin leaked this story to JMart" conspiracy theory.  A controversey wouldn't be complete without wild, baseless conspiracy theories.  Keep up the good work, guys!

And for those concluding that Frank Martin is going to leave K-State, I hope you understand that this will happen regardless of what happens with these contract negotiations.  K-State cannot compete with the offer that Frank will eventually get from a richer, more prestigous school.  He's going to leave.  It's just a matter of time.  But these contract negotations are important because they will help to influence whether he leaves sooner or later.

unless kstate just refuses even approach reasonable, i'd be surprised if martin leaves before pullen does.  partly based on emotional attachment, but not mostly.  after the 10-11 season would just be the logical time to leave, if he's going to do so.

I’ve been thinking about that, too. Obviously that kind of stuff is overblown in the fans’ minds (at least most of them), but what about in Currie’s mind? Even if he shrugs his shoulders at all of it, he will certainly use the language, the animated sideline behavior and the Merriwether incident as some sort of leverage in negotiations, no?

And how will Frank react to that?

q:  what does frank have to gain by pissing off currie by asking for more money

a:  increased worth in the marketplace

frank could be leveraging salary proposals from k-state in order to increase his worth at other schools.

also, black helicopters.

How does this make him more valuable than wins?  If anything, knowing KSU has lowballed and insulted him will cause other schools to think they can get him on the cheap.

ok.  how 'bout back to the original jeffrey martin premise:  martin wants to stay at kstate and get paid lots of money, but currie is an obstacle to that.

because, any number offered is more than he's making today.  get into a back and forth w/ Currie during season when he knows he's not going anywhere anyway.  create outrage w/ alumni and fans, force AD to continue pursuing him throughout springtime with offer after offer, each time raising the offer and benefits to he and his staff.  late spring comes, basketball is over, coaches from all around are out of jobs.  ADs from all around start calling frank.  frank isn't worth $760k/yr anymore, he's worth whatever 4 months of negotiating with Currie has gotten him to.

at that point frank forces Currie's hand to pay what the other schools are offering, or something close, or he can choose to leave.

all of this does in no way imply he's trying to leave MHK.

also, black helicopters.

I'm serious.  What does he have to gain that hasn't already been gained by his on-court performance? :dunno:

ok.

1)let's assume that frank and the staff want out. they don't like mhk. the weather. their AD. they are looking for the next step. more money. bigger city. etc. -i would think that this clearly, cleary sends the message to AD's at other schools that kstate is a joke and that they could easily make a run at frank if they want him. they can send out feelers to big boosters. talk to frank via backchannels. whatever. maybe it gets boosters at other schools calling their AD's and going "hey, how about we hire that martin guy and get rid of our current coach." if they want out than there is an advantage to getting this out there. period.

2)assuming they want to stay in mhk for at least another year past this one. getting this out there gets the public on franks side. puts a new AD on the defensive. rallies the troops. gets people talking about facilities. sends a clear, clear message to Currie that ksu people want and expect currie to do whatever he has to, to keep frank here. increases donations in an attempt to keep frank. most ksu fans did not know that he was THE lowest paid coach in the big12. they do now.

3) in both scenarios it kind of makes currie look like a b00b, which is a probably a pretty good feeling for frank given that the man insulted the crap out of him by offering him a cost of living raise that would have kept his salary in line with with the retard pile at the back of the big 12 (doc, bzd and mckneck).
