    Gettin' angried up!!!
Top ten...

1. Amarillo by morning
2. True
3. Stars on the water
4. Where the sidewalk ends
5. Baby's gotten good at goodbye
6. Run
7. Somewhere down in Texas
8. Oceanfront property
9. Carrying your love with me
10. Check yes or no

:kstatriot: <---except with King George on it.

A Strait top ten without The Chair?  Borderline blasphemy, IMO.

Amarillo by Morning is his best song imo.  It never gets old or overplayed.

Def the ultimate cowboy.  Dude is like 90 years old and is still a rodeo king.  ... Also, Chris L. is also a bad ass.

Most country muscians have song writers so the fact that George does doesn't bother me at all.

I have to agree with those of you who have Amarillo by Morning as their favorite.  I use to sing it at karaoke nights a long time ago.

Other favorites and in no particular order:

Unwound
If You're Thinking You Want a Stranger (There's One Coming Home)
Fool Hearted Memory
Marina de Rey
Lover in Disguise
A Fire I Can't Put Out
You Look So Good in Love
Let's Fall to Pieces Together
The Cowboy Rides Away
The Fireman
The Chair
Nobody in His Right Mind Would've Left Her
All My Ex's Live in Texas
Ace in the Hole
Gone as a Girl Can Get
Heartland
Check Yes or No
I Can Still Make Cheyenne
She'll Leave You with a Smile
Give it Away
How 'Bout Them Cowgirls
Troubadour

Cripes, I wrote 23 Strait songs !

Actually, it was hard to cull this to just those listed.

I love the smell of peat in the evening.  That smell, you know that earthy smell...  Smells like...whisky !

The Chair was my wife and I's first dance at our wedding reception.

Baby's gettin good at good bye is another good Strait song.

I agree though, good singer but not so much in concert.

This Cowboy's Hat might be the most unheralded country song ever.  Shades of Cash in there.  Would've like to have heard what he could have done with that song.

True dat.  It has a classic quality to it.  To bad it is unheralded...

Here is a youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQPRFqWPWgE

Here are the lyrics:

(Spoken) Well there's always been groups of people that could never see eye to eye... an' I always thought if they'd get the chance to sit down and talk face to face they might realize they got a lot in common.....

Well I was sittin' in a coffee shop, just havin' a cup to pass the time.
Swappin' rodeo stories with this ole cowboy friend of mine.
When some motor-cycle riders started snickerin' in the back
started pokin' fun at my friend's hat.
One ole boy said hey Tex, where'd you park your horse.
My friend just pulled his hat down low, but they couldn't be ingnored.
One husky fellow said, I think I'll rip that hat right off your head.
That's when my friend turned around, and this is what he said.....
You'll ride a black tornado, cross't the western sky
Rope an ole blue norther and milk it till it's dry
Bull dawg the Mississippi, pin it's ears down flat...
Long before you take this cowboy's hat....
Now partner, this ole hat is better left alone,
She used to be my daddy's, but last year he passed on.
My nephew skinned the Rattler that makes up this ole hatband,
But back in 69 he died in Viet_Nam
Now the eagle feather was given to me by an indian friend of mine
But someone ran him down somewheres round that Arizona line
And a real special lady gave me this hat pin
But I don't know if I'll ever see her again.
You'll ride a black tornado, cross't the western sky
Rope an ole blue norther and Milk it till it's dry
Bull dawg the Mississippi pin it's ears down flat...
Long before you take this cowboy's hat
Now if your leather jacket means to you what this hat means to me
Then I guess we understand each other, and we'll just let it be.
But if you still think it's funny, man, you got my back up against the wall.
And if you touch my hat, your gonna have to fight us all...
Well, right then I caught a little sadness in that gang leaders eyes,
And he turned back t'wards the others and they all just sorta shuffled on outside
But when my friend turned back t'wards me, I noticed his old hat brim
Well it was turned up.. in a big ole texas grin
You'll ride a black tornado cross't the western skies
Rope an ole blue norther, milk it till it's dry
Bull dawg the Mississippi, pin it's ears down flat
Long before you take this cowboy's hat.
I love the smell of peat in the evening.  That smell, you know that earthy smell...  Smells like...whisky !

Heard they're doing like a Broadway production of Pure Country.  Can't remember who's playing the lead; some young, fairly well known country dude.

George is my all time favorite country singer.  Saw him in concert at the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita back in August of 1987.  Holly Dunn (Daddy's Hands) opened for him then, and I got to meet her in person at the Shepler's store down on Kellogg a couple of hours before the concert.  My dad and I were in there shopping, and she happened to be there doing some kind of promotion.  So I got to have her sign my special Dr. Seuss autograph book.  Will never forget that.

Concert was awesome.  Got a free KFDI t-shirt in the parking lot when we got there.  It says "When News Happens, It Happens On KFDI".  Still have it and wear it sometimes by the way.

I was attempting to get a better idea of what the book was about, (thinking about picking one up for my niece) and I happened across this comment on Amazon's site.  Pretty funny crap.  Everyone is so damn PC now.  I guess ol' Dr.Ted should have written a book with the GLAAD set in mind.

This book is written EXCLUSIVELY for Heterosexual Middle School Girls ONLY! And should be advertised as such. Silly me - who thought that autograph books could be used and enjoyed by BOTH boys and girls and by EITHER gender REGARDLESS of their sexual orientation. I know for a fact that a girl and a boy can be best friends, and that boys and girls can get "crushes" on BOTH boys AND girls. BUT IN THIS BOOK... all references and pictures of "best friends" are of two girls, and all references to crushes and future marriage are to a guy. A two-page spread of stickers in the center of the book include ones that say: "Girls only", "Girls rule", "No Boys" (in a circle with a diagonal line through it), and "He's mine" and "I Love this guy!" (but none that say "She's mine" or "I Love this girl!").

One of my personal favorite George Strait songs (and kind of underrated) is "You Know Me Better Than That" from 1991.  I agree that "Amarillo By Morning" is his best, though.

You see that deal on (I think) GAC a couple nights ago?  Alison Krauss and Union Station, Brad Paisley, and Charlie Pride all played at the White House.  Pretty decent show.  Interesting how Obama dug up like the only black country star.  Guess the rapping cowboy and Hootie must have been booked elsewhere.

Here's another post.

Little known fact. But before George Strait was big time, he was scheduled to play at the Scott County Fair. But unfortunately, the rains came and the show was canceled.

So there you have it.

    Wait...what?
No offense to George, but Pure Country was proof positive that he should never be in another movie again.  ("Go on, get yer ass outta here."   )  Great soundtrack, though.

The good thing about his concerts is that he sounds as good as the album.  The bad thing about his concerts is that they sound just like his album.  I like some variety in the presentation so I know I'm hearing it live.  (Which, come to think of it, is kinda funny when you think about the Pure Country plot.)

My top 10 of George:

1)  Amarillo by Morning (duh, even if not a George original--interesting that it peaked at #4 for George, and therefore isn't on 50 Number Ones).
2)  Carried Away
3)  Check Yes or No
4)  Carryin' Your Love With Me
5)  Blue Clear Sky
6)  Overnight Male (by far the cleverest lyrics of any of George's songs)
7)  The Chair
8)  The Man In Love With You
9)  Adalida
10)  Run

in his defense, robot animatronics were not as good/realistic in the early nineties as they are now. i'm sure his acting would appear much more realistic if they were to make a pure country II.
