just found out that i'll be attending royals-rangers spring training game in frisco (north dallas) on friday april 3rd. seats are supposed to be in box/suite w/ food and drinks and stuff. we also may get the opportunity to meet the players although this is unclear whether it is rangers or royals players.

 :woot: :woot: :woot:

Flying American out of Manhattan INTERNATIONAL Airport?

nope, but will be surrounded by super elite AA employees during the game. will attempt to grill them for secret insider information.

Good plan.  See what you can do about getting us a Chicago flight.  Also, mention this thread so they all come and see how EMAW totally has their back.

That stadium in Frisco is very nice, especially considering it's a minor league stadium.  (Think its called Dr. Pepper Ballpark or something like that.)

All Rise... The Judge is in the house.
The Royals turned down a chance to sign Pedro Matrinez. Pedro wanted 5 million for one season.
http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/backpage/archives/2009/03/report-royals-t.html

He isn't worth spending 5 mil on for 1 year... maybe for an organization that likes to spend money wastefully but not the royals...

Oh I know. I just thought it was interesting that he came to us looking for that deal. The Royals do like to spend wastefully, though (See Teahen, Bloomquist, Gload, etc).

A lot of people have ratted on Teahen but he has had an outstanding spring and I am willing to see how he does this season at 2nd base... if he struggles then KC has to do something with him... Bloomquist was a bad one I agree and Gload is going to be cut soon...

Pedro is pretty worthless at this point in his career imo.

I only ragged on those three because the Royals have invested close to 8 million dollars in utility guys. They could've signed Orlando Hudson or Orlando Caberra with that money and we would have a set infield. Instead we have a few guys who can play second, but haven't done it everyday in their careers.

Pedro is pretty worthless at this point in his career imo.

I wouldn't say that. He looked just as good (if not better) than Sidney Ponson in the WBC. He's a rich man's Brian Bannister now. He doesn't have much of a fastball anymore, which makes it hard to set up his other pitches. It would've been awesome to have Pedro and his little friend in the locker room, though.

It seems like Seitzer's approach of trying to hit everything up the middle is working:
http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090330&content_id=4091552&vkey=news_kc&fext=.jsp&c_id=kc

Let's hope he doesn't implement his patented "Get hit in the f^cking head so many times you have to retire" approach to batting stances.

While I was playing baseball and receiving hitting instruction from MLB scouts I was always told in order to be a successful hitter is to go up the middle with the ball. You never want to practice pulling the ball because it doesn't train you to hit college and pro pitching. My instruction came from an organization that is a rival to Mac n Seitz in the KC area. Similar ideas though. I played against Seitzer's teams a lot in KC and his teams were always fundamentally sound hitting wise. They man knows what he is talking about and the offensive numbers by the Royals so far this spring shows.

Yeah, when I was tooling around the AAA circuit with the Iowa Cubs I just tried to blast the ball over the wall in left every at bat.  Someone once told me that I would be a better hitter if I just blasted it over the wall in deep center.  I told them to STFU and, because of it, never made it to the bigs.....though I do hold the Iowa Cubs record for slugging with runners in scoring position.

So Hooch gets sent down today in favor of Ponson, who promptly throws 5 innings of 7 hit, 7 earned run ball.  &@#%, here we go again. :frown:

Back end of the rotation will not be good... just gotta get over it. Hopefully our offense will be there on days when the 4 and 5 in the rotation start.

Yeah, i admit it doesn't look good. But i'll give him more chances. He was doing pretty good in the WBC, so i'll give 'em a little more time.

The Knight's career stats are absolutely horrendous.

Had season(s) of ERA under 4.50 just twice 2002: 4.09 & 2003: 3.75
Career Era: 4.95
Innings: 1701.2
Ks: 999
K/9: 5.285
H:1925          BB:584
WHIP: 1.475
1 complete game in the last 3 years.

None of that is good.

Dude, you are a pro.  Unbelievable work here.  Unfortunately not a lot of Royals fans (I am one, FWIW), so not many will see your work here.  Kinda like putting the Louvre in Hays or something.

Even Jim Thome can see something is up.............

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- As Jim Thome reminded his teammates, the days of scanning the schedule, seeing the letters "K.C." and penciling in at least two victories in a three-game series are over for the White Sox. The term ''parity'' might be thrown around too often in sports, but it's the only way to describe the American League Central four days before Opening Day.

"Look at their club,'' Thome said Wednesday of the Kansas City Royals, who haven't finished higher than third in the division since 1995 and have finished last seven times in that span. ''I was watching them on TV a week ago, and I was like, 'Wow, this team has improved.'

"They're young, but they swing the bats. And we all know about their starting pitching. Then they added to their bullpen, which makes them even more equal to the rest of the pack. They could be like Tampa Bay, where they collected a lot of young guys over the years, signed some guys and have progressed to the point where it could make our division that much better.''
