I cringed at that as well.

Do we really need to use a scholly on a middle of the road guard for 2010?  I don't get it.

We're just one of 19 schools he mentioned.  We weren't the best or the worst program on that list, and he didn't mention any offers.  :users:

Why would they stop recruiting Mitchell? We still had a good shot at landing him. Damn you Frank.  :curse:

Read betweent the line$, Pat.

I was hearing from people close to the situation a couple weeks ago that Frank and staff have washed their hands of the situation due to his mom'$ involvement with his recruitment.  Funny how she hasn't given a $hit about this kid for 17 years and now suddenly does.

If what I have been told is accurate in terms of what she is shopping T. Mitch around for and the way this is publically playing out, I'm half way glad that Frank's not getting us into the middle of this mess.

It's not going to end well.......

Southwell visiting this weekend.

He won't salvage the class but his addition would stave off another 2008 humiliation.

Southwell, Spradling and 'Sprilla would be satisfactory in what looked destined to be a down recruiting year.   :users:

Bird in hand and all that.  Plus, who knows if those kids will actually end up playing PG or SG at the D1 level even if we do sign them all.  Also, depth at the guard position is sweet.

Traynham would be pretty mediocre in the Big12.  and that is being polite.

meh, 2008 really wasn't that bad.  at least not as bad as it seemed at the time.  and this year still could be pretty decent.  nothing great, but a decent placeholder class.

Who are you including in the class?  I mean, the best part was that we told them all to GTFOOOF's after one season or less :dunno:

yeah, that's what i mean.  except i think that was probably the plan all along (both jucos had enough creds to graduate after 1 year).

i like that instead of grabbing a desperation 4 year player late, they just rolled the ships over to 2009, filling them with whatever seemed handy in the interim.

ross-miller update.  no mention of kstate.  sounds like a recruit who thinks he's better than his offers.

He only has USF listed as offering.  Are there others?

sys, would you rather ross-miller or southwell playing only point?

ross-miller, definitely.  southwell just isn't a point guard.  but from their respective offers, i think it is fairly obvious that southwell is more desired player when you remove the stipulation that they each play point.

Southwell definately looks to me to be the more desired player.  Say what it takes to get him here, to him and his mom.

IMO you also have to worry about keeping him here, because if we don't let him play point once he gets here he is likely to bitch about it and walk after a year.  Thoughts?

the biggest difference between a point forward and a point guard is that the point guard usually brings the ball up the court.  shane is a point forward.  if he's gonna get pissed off that he can't bring up ball up the floor 100% of the time, then he's not exactly the tough, gritty NY player that i think he is.

agree. I'm still curious how frank will use McGruder.  If Gruds is a point/combo, then in '10 we'd have Pullen (sr.), Russell (So), Irving (SO), Gruds (SO), and Sprads (Fr) all playing the 1-2 spots.  I don't know what Southwell really wants, but out 1-2 guards do the ball handling, maybe we can sell him on that.

Frank will give him a more than fair shot.  He is pretty consistent in recruiting guys he hopes can become big PGs.  I think he loves the idea.  I can see a few scenarios with say McGruder, Irving and Southwell on the floor in which Southwell would be running point in half court in non-critical situations, but i don't think he's going to expect to beat out  SR Pullen as a Freshman to be the defacto #1 PG.  Frank also loves the idea of having multiple guys out there who can run point.  He might just tell Southwell, "if you get the rebound consider yourself PG for that possesion."  This is different than the Peete-Wooly situation because Frank's style doesn't demand a "slow it down, get it to the PG, set up the triangle" on every possesion.  Like Rusty, Frank seems to like the idea of having three PGs on the court at once.  Ultimately, he's going to get more ball handling oppurtunities here, than he would at just about any other high major.  If he's unhappy, I don't think it'll be due to lack of oppurtunity.
