http://www.kansas.com/243/story/84834.htmlThe Royals have the #2 pick in the upcoming draft.
The leading possibilities appear to be two high school seniors: right-handed pitcher Rick Porcello of West Orange, N.J., and third baseman Josh Vitters of Cypress, Calif. But at least four or five other players are likely to generate serious consideration.
The Royals, under Moore, are expected to follow the general Atlanta philosophy, which places a priority on high school prospects in the early rounds and generally follows Major League Baseball's slotting recommendations on signing bonuses.
The slotting recommendation for the second overall pick is roughly $3.1 million, but such a ceiling could make Porcello a risky selection since his agent is Scott Boras. The draft's other premier prep pitcher, Matt Harvey, is also represented by Boras.
The Royals would, almost certainly, select Price if the Devil Rays opt for someone else, but they appear lukewarm toward other college pitchers.
Missouri State's Ross Detwiler and North Carolina State's Andrew Brackman have been inconsistent; Clemson's Daniel Moskos projects more as a reliever, which limits his appeal as the No. 2 overall pick.
Club officials will examine Georgia Tech catcher Matt Wieters, who is generally viewed as the top nonpitching collegiate prospect. But Wieters is also a Boras client and is believed to be seeking a bonus far heftier than the slotting recommendation.
The top high school position players in addition to Vitters are Chatsworth, Calif., infield teammates Mike Moustakas and Matt Dominguez and outfielder Michael Burgess of Tampa, Fla.
