Essentially Flyertalk / Parking Services
« on: December 12, 2012, 12:10:29 PM »
Anyone else have fun stories from these guys?

a week ago, parked my moped at the bike racks on campus (as was the law when i registered in 08) and got a $50 ticket. $50! the same as a car taking up one of a limited number of spots. $50 is more than i spend on gas for that thing in a year! like what the heck. not even a warning that they changed the rule back in july. been parking since then, and no warning for 5 months, then a $50 ticket??
going through the appeal process to see if i can get it revoked, then they email me saying we'll reduce the ticket to $5 if you buy a pass for it for $60. the prorated price for the pass according to other passes should be $35... emailed them about this and haven't heard back.

 :shakesfist: parking services!

which path should i go down, appeal the case, then have the chance of paying $50 for the ticket, or pay $65 for the ticket and pass?

i typically would use my bike instead of the 'ped, so i really dont need a pass. I really wouldn't use it.

Kansas State Football / goEMAW BSFS Brick idea?
« on: November 26, 2012, 05:28:28 PM »
I'm sure some of you got the email about donating money to the expansion and getting a brick that you can customize (like sunset zoo did, showing my manhattanite colors).
Any thoughts on going in on one for goEMAW? if not, maybe for fatty? include "good people deserve good things, fatty4ksu" or something ?
sorry if luked or if dumb idea. Thought it'd be a good commemoration.

Kansas State Football / any emaws near dfw....
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:42:41 AM »
if any fellow emaws are near the airport down here, and are willing to help another emaw out  pm me. i'm more or less "stuck" at the sheraton dfw for a few more hours as my friends started late this morning driving so they wont be down for a while, so i'm trying to make it over to ft worth area and not paying 50+ for a cab would help. if anyone is in the area, would trade a ride for some beers.

I feel this issue is overlooked. Sorry if this is buried in another thread somewhere, I just wanted to hear thoughts on it. Romney's view is to heavily encourage the private sector to increase admissions to private education.

Does anyone else see this as a threat to many things?

1. Definitely stratifies the classes even more.
2. Does not assuredly decrease federal spending on education - plan is to subsidize the cost.
3. Helps some excel farther than they would in public ed, but on the flip side, potentially holds down talent in lower SES areas.
4. State Universities, such as our elite home, could see a drop in admissions, as people flock to "better" privates schools, "better" out of state uni's.
5. Grounds for admissions to universities will have to be redrawn, as there won't be a uniform standard of achievement beyond the ACT/SAT, rather individual schools will have their own means of assessment which could vary greatly.
6. has the same penalties on schools and teachers as no child left behind, but with less of the few positives there were with NCLB.

And some other frustrations with Romney's plans.
I. New teachers will not have to take state certification exams, essentially anyone with a degree in anything can teach anything.
II. He believes class size doesn't matter, that if one teacher is teaching 15 kids, or if their teaching 40 kids, that both groups should achieve marks at the same level.
III. Has stated he will pull federal aid for universities.

Not saying I'm voting either way - there are certainly things from pres. Obama that i disagree with, i just wanted to see how other rational folk felt about education.
