I'm happy you have this day so soon after the move.  Didn't this thread get the 2014 added to the title due to the february storm that we just beat snowfall wise?  At least in KC we beat whatever 6" pud storm happened 2/17/14

When the Texas infrastructure froze in 2021 the price of natural gas shot up so high that Oklahoma gas companies had to overspend by $1.4Bn. The state bailed them out (our governor is a shitbag) by selling bonds and passing the repayment of the bonds onto rate payers for the next 20 years. The 2021 Texas cold snap cost me $1,000.

It's only for like 3 days this time, so they should be good, that being said, hopefully they got a lot of propane tanks to thaw crap out this time. I'm sure the eyes of Texas are on ERCOT this week

ERCOT is claiming they have done a bunch of upgrades since the 2021 calamity and are not worried about having to intentionally cut power for several days to regular honest tax paying texas residents in order to ensure that national treasure joel osteen can keep all 17,000 square feet of his home nice and toasty without any of his backup generators having to kick on at any point.

I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of power lines just happen to go down (in the middle of the night when nobody is looking) throughout large areas of major population centers, you know, b/c the storms will do that sometimes.

Rick Perry said it and I absolutely agree with him...I would rather die freezing to death in my living room if it preserved the ability for a handful of obscenely wealthy energy executives to continue to make obscene profits via skirting best practices. The people have spoken. We don't want our energy companies to invest in hardening their infrastructure. We want them to slap a bandaid on it for 1/10 of what it should cost, give themselves tidy bonues/raises/stock options/etc., and then we'll all cross our fingers that we don't get another winter death storm.

Oh and then we will blame wind farms in case it happens again.
