Guys if Oprah can run/walk and marathon anyone can.  Stop telling him he is too heavy.

what's your point? oprah also has her own production company and like a hundred billion dollars. i suppose ksutommy should be able to do that as well?
Good point Sorry Tommy you can't do it you are too fat.  Don't even think about it even though subway Jerrod ran a marathon, his only claim to fame is losing lots of weight and owning a huge porn collection (so I've heard).
To summerize:
If you are fat
1. don't try and get into shape by running
b. stay fat because it is easier
III. Don't do anything Opera does because she owns a production company and you don't

Did I get it all Daris?

I don't see any positives to running a marathon (or any distance)

They are saying to lose the weight first and then run the marathon. Subway Jerrod didn't run a marathon when he was still obese.

It's O.k. you don't have to.  But don't feel bad when you seem me with my elite abs, and stamina that makes the women swoon.

what if it was blizzard death storm 2010 and the streets were gridlocked and you had to get to the local bww to watch the big ksu game w/ dax and the only way to get there and get there in time was to run.  :dunno:

I have a question... I'm thinking about attempting a marathon in November. When I was in the army, I ran like a jackrabbit, buuut, since then EMAW has happened, KSU drinkfest, married, kids yadda yadda yadda. But, now I'm just passed the waking up all the time at night and I am feeling rested on a regular basis. So I think I'm ready. What's a good prep time for a person line me? Nonsmoker, nondrinker (for the most part) but I'm 6'7" 270 lb... so I'm a pretty big dude. I think at maximum right now I could run a 10K, but prolly no more. I've read some stuff on the interwebs, but I wanted some "real" opinions from you all. FWIW, it's the San Antonio rock 'n' roll marathon and there's music playing the entire time you are running by various live bands along the way.
Anyway, let's hear it... tia

I ran a marathon once. Was not worth it. Would not do again.

One time I drove my car for about the length of a marathon.  There was nothing good on the radio, got bored after about 10 minutes.  I can't imagine running that far.

I've ran two marathons w/ minimal training. But I am a regular sized person, not a monster.

I suggest you stand on your tip toes and dunk basketballs for fun instead.

Running just seems dumb.
You're either fat or one of those pricks who fingered my homecoming date cause you were on the football team.  :curse:

This is the best post ITT as far as I'm concerned.

As a former Q@ trackie and someone who has run 2 R&R 1/2 marathons (Chicago and Memphis) I feel I should chime in. First, you have plenty of time to prepare. What you need to focus on right now is getting your cardio up. If you haven't been running for a while ease into it, joints will ache for anyone but especially someone with your frame.

If you have access to a gym bike and elliptical to get that cardio work in and hit the streets maybe twice a week. If you're confident you could run a 10k right now I'd suggest running 15-20 miles total per week for the first month. Check out crossfit.com and anytime they have a rowing workout up attack it hard while you are in process of increasing cardio.

For anyone who suggested running is worthless:

your joints will "ache" because they are being destroyed. Just buy an eliptical and dpend 25 hours on it.

I'd like to see somebody destroy "joints" from engaging in moderate cardio... cartilage may not be tip top but it would take a man the size of Robert Wadlow to destroy joints from cardio.

This is good advice. I would do it constantly if I were you (only taking quick breaks to succeed professionally, financially and intellectually and express revel in my status as the most successful dating and mating group on earth).

I also, I ran a marathon cold turkey when I was in my mid-20s (Rockin' K!). Srsly, if walking up stairs backwards for a month sounds fun, you should go ahead and go down that road.

Cold Turkey is when you give up (or quit) a habit or an addiction, no?

You quote a running blog who has a short entry about runners being sexy?  That's like me writing a goEMAW blog about how goEMAW mods are rough ridin' amazing in the sack and amazing looking and amazing chefs and amazing friends (which coincidentally is all true)

Ya, was just sorta going through the motions until this post.  Dead on, SD nails it.  Factually accurate.
