By the way, I used to run this scenario through my head all the time, only I pictured myself being in a classroom rather than a gas station. I am convinced that I would do the following:
Find the person in the classroom I care most about, grab them, and shove them in a closet. Then, I would charge the gunman with a desk, knocking him to the floor. Then I would step on his throat while somebody who knows stuff about guns grabs the gun (I know nothing about guns and am absolutely horrified by them.)
If a gunman approached me on the street, I would run in zig zags, but not in a pattern.
The life-or-death scenario I play out most in my head is when I'm taking long drives on the highway, wondering what I would do if my brakes went out and I had to ditch the car. Do you smash it into a guard rail? Do you try to turn the wheel really fast? I really have no idea, especially if you are going downhill or around a corner. What I think I'd do is unbuckle my seatbelt, roll down the window, and then jump out. Would I survive that?
