What would you do if.....
« on: December 14, 2010, 10:32:29 AM »
You know how everyone always plays those scenarios's through their minds?  Well.........."what would you do if you got robbed at gun point" happened yesterday where I work.

And I failed miserably.  Ran like a bitch as soon as I saw the guy pointing his gun.  Left my employees to fend for themselves.  Just turned into a huge pussy.

NEXT TIME I will definitely step up and try and stop him..........................lol at that.  I'm running again.   :runaway:

Need more description.  How did this go down?  What kind of a scenario was it?  Do your employees hate you now?  Why are you such a huge pussy?

You should probably give your employees a raise for putting them in that situation.

You will probably have to either quit, or hire a brand new staff because the people there now will forever view you as a total FP.  They will definitely never respect you again.  Sorry, no going back from this dude.

Dude came in with pistol pointing (sideways obviously) and yelled "merry christmas, bitches!".(<----)   2 of my employees were up front and myself and a few others were in the back of the store.  We all ran.  The 2 guys up front just opened their drawers and handed over the cash.  (Do not manage 7/11........altho prob same robber since I am in kcmo and I know he hit a wendy's as well)

On a side note......when running I was calling 911 where I was on hold for 2 minutes.  "Please hold for the next available operator"   :surprised:  As I am staring at the gunman walking through our parking lot I am ON HOLD with 911.  Unbelievable.

The cops were even slower.  Showing up 12 minutes later to a freaking armed robbery call.

Did you at least get the guy's license plate number?

By the way, I used to run this scenario through my head all the time, only I pictured myself being in a classroom rather than a gas station. I am convinced that I would do the following:

Find the person in the classroom I care most about, grab them, and shove them in a closet. Then, I would charge the gunman with a desk, knocking him to the floor. Then I would step on his throat while somebody who knows stuff about guns grabs the gun (I know nothing about guns and am absolutely horrified by them.)

If a gunman approached me on the street, I would run in zig zags, but not in a pattern.

The life-or-death scenario I play out most in my head is when I'm taking long drives on the highway, wondering what I would do if my brakes went out and I had to ditch the car. Do you smash it into a guard rail? Do you try to turn the wheel really fast? I really have no idea, especially if you are going downhill or around a corner. What I think I'd do is unbuckle my seatbelt, roll down the window, and then jump out. Would I survive that?

Nope.  He had a truck waiting for him across the street and it was already getting dark outside.  Was able to describe him as an african american (black guy) dressed in all black with a ski mask in a black small truck.  Ford Ranger?

You could just put the car in neutral, turn off the ignition, and wait for the car to coast to a stop, or at least slow down enough to run it off the road safely.

You did the right thing. But I still think it's best to be aggressive and force the gunman to make a decision. Most of these robbers are wimps. They don't actually plan on using the gun, and never think that far ahead. If you charge after him, there's a good chance he retreats and rushes out the door. If that happens, you've saved your employees, you are a hero, the local news is calling you and, if you come off as likable, maybe even the national outlets, too.

Of course, if you're wrong, you're dead.

If you are going down hill neutral is not a good idea.  Unless the accelerator is stuck.

Find the nearest hill, put car in N and go up hill.  If this fails to work, find the nearest pool/lake and get wet(always wanted to do this).

Or park, Will tear the hell out of your transmission though but better alive I guess.  If this is really a fear of yours you should get a manual transmission vehicle then you can just down shift to slow yourself down.

that happened to a friend of mine.  his burn was pretty bad but he used Silver Sulfadiazine and had good success.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.
