Gip will get a little better, but he'll always be limited in Conference play.  Not tall enough, not quick enough to be an impact post player in a BCS league like the Big XII.

Also don't think the pinch post offense was good for gip.

6'7 with a 7'2 wingspan is plenty big enough for Conference play and Gip has great feet, It is shocking how people link Thomas declining to his size and not the fact he was a freshmen post on a team with a declining offensive efficiency.

Gip is limited physically for his game. He's a plodder. I love him, but he won't make huge strides like a lengthy jumper could. He's not athletically Thomas Robinson and doesn't have the potential to be.

His top end potential is a little more polished Louis Colon.

And that's ok.  There just shouldn't be expectations that he's going to be All-Conference or anything.

15 and 8 is not out of the reach for him, Colon and Gip are nothing like. He could end up being a 2X 2nd/3rd team performer, He has a really good understanding of the game and really understands positioning. Colon didn't understand the game at a high level just knew how to be physical. Gips numbers per 40 are pretty solid.

Definitely not as athletic as T-Rob. However, while it may be purple glasses, I thought Gip was better offensively as a Fr than what T-Rob was. As a Fr, it looked like the only shots T-Rob could make consistently were a lay-up or slam dunk.

gipson had a pretty polished offensive game for a freshman big.

In the non-con, he was superb.  And then Conference season happened.

And at what point in the season did you forget that he was a true freshman?

Gip had an amazing season for a freshman in the Big XII and contributed a lot more than anybody could have reasonably expected.

Uh no.  Beasley, Griffin, Durant were "amazing" freshmen.  Guys like Pullen, Pressey, Elijah Johnson were "good" as freshmen.  Gip was pretty average, at best.

Do you watch much KState basketball?  Serious question.

I'll just say that Gip came in as a FR with a lot more skill and touch on the low block than I was expecting, his hook is pretty reliable and he even showed the ability to knock it down with his right hand at times  As many others have pointed out, he is somewhat limited due to lacking explosive athleticism but he's already fairly crafty in the paint and if he can continue to develop that craftiness, I could definitely see him being a 12-13 and 8 guy by the time he's done at KSU.

As for Johnson, well when you've got even his HS coach who's pumping up as some sort of Kenneth Faried clone saying he has some offensive limitations, then well, I'm not going to expect much pt production from him early. Does look like he already has decent physical build and moves pretty well for his size, so he has a good base of physical tools to build from.

Gip was an above average frosh IMO.  Dude had amazing hands and rarely played out of control.  He's only going to get better.

O trust me fanning we are all fans of shades of gray....but you can't get called out by some high-holy dumbass like "Belvis Noland" and not trespond...especially when he equates elijah johnson as a peer of Jacob Pullen who is not only a superior basketbal player, but also person, public speaker, and role model. I mean elijah johnson hardly played at ku his freshman year and now as,what, a junior? Is still half the player Jake was/is...so I guess I turn the question to you Belvis, do you watch much Big XII basketball? Because if you do I would recommend you get a cat scan because it appears you might have had some sort of stroke or something

Now you're just being a douchebag... didn't know that was your thing.

I didn't say he was "really, really, amazing". Beaz & Durant were well beyond any adjective yet uttered in this thread.

Lets get back on track.  Josh Gray!  :ksu:  Whats the word on scholarships?  How are we going to make room for him?  I know there is a Frank Omari camp, but is there anything more behind this other than he appears to be our worst player?  I know there are other rumblings of Watson graduating, is that really an option?
"Ever heard of that one, Stan?"
