Somebody try playing around with codes and stuff while I'm at work and find us a good deal on renting a big rough ridin' SUV or minivan from Wichita late tonight or real early tomorrow morning that we could probably get back w/in 24 hours or certainly before Monday assuming the places aren't open tomorrow night when we get back from Manhattan.

I've tried using the #1Gold thing on Hertz that was mentioned a long time ago here and most of the associated Hertz deals from various airline/hotel memberships and I'm finding it's about $100.  Seems high.

Worth doing re: bowl game flight if I haven't gotten signed up for Southwest card yet?  I don't currently have a skymiles acct and have never had an AMEX.

Well, you have to spend $5k on it to get the miles. if that is doable within the first month then it could be a good option.

theoretically, but probably not. skymiles are notoriously difficult to use at low redemption rates. you will most likely find medium availability.  here is their chart:

that's ridiculous... our corporate rate is $50/day for an suv/minivan

when I've rented through hertz I give them my southwest rapid rewards number and you get 600 points, think it works out to $5 in fares

can get a minivan at the wichita budget for $82 for 24 hours which is the best I've found.

Trim,  if you happen to have any BA Avios, check using them to rent a car.   I got a fullsize in Dallas for the Cotton Bowl for 9k Avios for 3 days.

8man, I was just thinking about your bowl trip needs and couldn't remember if we had talked about the US Air card or not. Phoenix is their western hub and 2 of our more likely bowl destinations are in Phoenix. Plus you get 40k US Air miles after first use. That is probably your best bet.
