Are you 5/24 safe or nah? If you're safe you have nothing to worry about (assuming your credit doesn't suck crap)

my wife just got the csp and i (she) had to call in. it was nothing. they didn't even ask anything except something like confirm your address or something stupid like that and that was it.

i dunno what you are thinking on your travel credit. kinda making life hard, if you ask me.

i called chase. any purchases i make now will show up on my first statement in jan 2017, and will therefore be counted towards 2017's $300 limit. i guess i could have applied for it like a month ago and gotten some more free travel, but there was no "penalty" for me not opening it in january instead of the end of december.

well eff. apparently the 100k lasts till march for in branch? applying for a credit card in a branch seems like it would be uncomfortable though. eff, eff, eff.

Tried the CSR again online and denial. 11/24 per the Rep on the phone. Trying a Hail Mary at the branch and fully expect to be denied. Will report back

Maybe already posted, but you can no longer transfer Marriott points to Rapid Rewards and have them qualify for companion pass.

This mumped everyone I know who currently stays at Marriott properties and flies Southwest. So, like, 80% of the people I work with.

5/24 isn't a thing for getting a citi card, right? Citi's rule is not being able to get the bonus if you had a citi card w/in the prior 24 months.

I'd give this a go, except that would be my 5th card in the 24 months prior to summer 2017, and I want to be able to get a csr this summer, probably even at only 50K.

pete, good news. all the pissed off people made them move the effective date up to april 1. so if you can slam it home before then you are golden.

Not sure if this belongs in the travel thread or this one, but I have a decision that I'd like you biz travel guys to weigh in on.

I have been a life long Marriott guy, but that's frequently because my clients make us stay at them on long projects with their corporate rates and crap.

I am starting a long project and have a choice on hotels, and I can choose between Marriott properties per usual, or I could go with aloft or Westin (NOT a nice Westin). I am platinum Marriott, so I now automatically get that on Starwood hotels.

Should I switch over to Starwood or stay Marriott?

I know I will be on this project long enough to get Platinum on SPG points (and thereby keep my Marriott streak via status match), so that isn't a big issue.

What are the trade offs I am not thinking of?

Marriott seems to be available in a lot more podunk towns (for work). So SPG may be better if you know you'll be in large cities but if that may change you have a little less risk sticking with Marriott.

It's a factor for my work travel, at least.

Also, SW sent my wife an email saying "congrats on the Companion Pass!" even though it should have expired at the end of 2016. And then they sent a follow up saying they messed up.

FYI the companion pass transfer thing is on hold for the moment, so smoke em if you got em.

Signed up for the non 5/24 AA verbiage card yesterday, sounds like people are getting told they will see the bonus even if 5/24'd out

Does anyone know if the SPG buy points bonus is still active? I was thinking about doing it to secure a companion pass for 2018, and now I'm really considering it since I may not be able to get another companion pass after this year with no hotel point transfers. (I'm way over 5/24.)

Also, if it is active and I buy the points/transfer them over, do I get a companion pass for 2017 and 2018 even if I already have the CP for this year (which I do)? I don't want to buy a bunch of points and then find out I don't actually get the full two years.
