Why would they do this?  If I one was spending their points on Amazon, why wouldn't they now just get the cash back deal and spend with Amazon anyway?

i haven't thought about it but i bet there's a connection to their 5/24 rule implementation and them knowing their pending new card launch

well the chase is a no brainer for the sign up but that has nothing to do with which is the better card. right now I'd say for a keep and pay the fee card the plat amex is better but there's still some unknowns about the chase. if it has united club access (which some have speculated) it may be an even match. the plat amex centurion lounges are absolutely the best domestic lounges but there aren't a ton of them. the united lounge access would offset the delta access you get with the amex. amex has a bunch of other crap thrown on (hilton gold, spg gold, amex fine hotels discounts and benefits, some other crap) that we'll have to see if the chase can match.

i've actually not flown AA in probably 20 years.  pretty much just a delta/sw man by nature.  if i was going somewhere and aa had a first class advantage over delta on the particular route, i'd go with aa.  i'm pretty much just talking about taking birds over the pond.  hear me?
