OK, what airline can I fly on to Italy and use points and not still have to pay an outrageous amount of actual money in stupid fees?

Rome is a delta hub and you can fly RT (layover in detroit or minneapolis) for 60k miles + $69

i also just set up a phantom itinerary for MCI-FCO ; VCE-MCI and it was only 60k + $65 (but you have 2 stops on the way back)

I found what I think would be a better option for this unique situation and my unwillingness to eat one of those weed cookies to knock me out: 25K 1st class milesaaver - 7:55 SEA - 10:38 LAX, 11:55 LAX - 7:41 MIA. 

Watch 5:00 #oscar vs. TCU in a SEA club and get pak'd, keep getting pak'd on the way to LAX, get a few more drinks down if needed in LAX, and be KO'd as soon as I sit down in the comfy seat going from LAX to MIA.  Not a direct and would have me pak'n/chat'n at the airport instead of at home, but saves me 15K for 1st class or just adds 5K to get 1st class (and a bunch of booze and probably funnier chat/twitter).  Thoughts?

almost any booking with ua miles.  aa bookings on aa metal.  with all airlines, there will be fewer fees if you don't route through london.


afaik, it's mostly just ba that charges ridiculous fees.

no, there are a lot more. but, the domestic carriers don't on their metal. as sys pointed out anyone routing through london has to pay stupid london taxes.

Getting that flight was a pain in the ass.  Kept locking me out at the seat map section just like last night, so I called in.  Ticket guy wanted to charge me $25.  Internet lady had a thicker accent than Nathan Fielder's exaggerated Asian lady driver accent, so I asked to go back to tickets and got a new lady.  She initially couldn't find tickets available on my flight, probably because I was halfway through buying like 4 of them online at that point, but eventually got it worked out and waived the fee.  Half-hour on the phone for all that, plus however long it took before I gave up online.

She said since the first leg is on Alaska metal, that I might have to pay them for baggage.  It's still 1st class on that part and I've got their credit card.  Think I'll be able to have them waive that, if I even take a checked bag?

ASFAIK you should be covered by the policy for the ticketed airline (i.e. if you book American you should be under their policies).
