you can get an citi aa card.  the gold has a low spend that you could crank out super fast.  not sure how long it takes for the points to post, but it's reasonably fast.

if you just want an aa flight, you could transfer your ur's to ba and book it with avios.



check into the cost of just purchasing the flight with ur.  sometimes that's the best deal.

Don't know if you lose the UR's, but you could transfer them to freedom until one of you can get a UR account again. Probably worth a fee to keep at least one UR earning card between the two of you open all the time.

of all the transfer partners it's the most consistently easy to get good value out of the points. If he's going to lose all the UR points (which he will if he cancels his last UR account) that's the safest spot for them. United can get you big value if you book low level premium class overseas flights, SW is a good choice if you have a companion pass which would ultimately double the value of the miles, some of the other air partners can get you a great redemption on premium class if you have a specific flight with availability in mind. But, with Hyatt, it's extremely easy to get 2 CPM. The Grand Hyatt Kauai is 25k points and will almost always be going for $500+ a night. The Hyatt in Wichita is only 5k so if you if it's going for $100 or more that's 2 CPM+. storing them on a freedom is fine if you think you are going to get another UR card soon but obviously you've just gotten shut down for one so you'll have a wait and won't be able to get more cards while you wait.

My US Airways card got converted to an American card.  They (the card company, not AA) called for some reason or another.  I told them I wanted to cancel the card, they said if I did I'd lose my miles.  What is my misunderstanding?

Maybe they were talking about the miles that hadn't posted to your account yet (that you had earned within the last month).

I hadn't used the card since it went from US Airways to AA (many months).  They might have even been calling because I hadn't activated it.

i'm super proud of my last booking.  it took a lot of work, but i personally think i kicked a little ass, given i was starting from a position of ignorance.

i think sd maybe missed where the poster was going to keep a freedom.  i'd transfer the points to the freedom with the plan of transferring back to ur's when they get their next csp or ink.
