Thanks. I looked at a few articles and they weren't that helpful.

Also, I'm not having any trouble making these payments. I just thought it might be nice not to have them and also save about $1,200 bucks.

The loan also went into default more than 10 years ago.

it's fine but not the best. the current SPG 30k is good and limited time (PM me your name and email and I'll refer you

), any of the UR cards from Chase are good options (see links on first post of thread for referrals

). Those are probably the guarantee home runs right now. I have never had the Arrival but I know they recently devalued it a bit and sys hates barclays guts so you may want to consider that.

I'm legitimately not suggesting those just because I can personally benefit from you getting them. they actually are the best current options out there (not the Freedom one, it will go to 20k later in the year. and you don't want to get it unless you have either the Ink or Sapphire Preferred anyway).

I'm dropping my arrival+ card here as soon as I can wait out for the next SPG reward time....wouod not recommend that card.

SPG is hotels- good hotels and 30K points is a good bonus.

No, you'll still have an account with Barclay's. The card itself is not important to your credit score. If you don't activate the card they will likely just call you after a few weeks.

There's a credit penalty for applying to any card. If you're going to apply for multiple cards, do it on the same day and make sure they are different banks.

SPG points are very valuable because they have good options at their own hotels (Westin, Sheraton, W, ALoft, etc.) but also because they transfer to every airline program with a 5k bonus. So you can transfer 20k to AA and get 25k. Actually right now you can transfer 20k to AA and get 30k because they are running a bonus. With your Barclays card you get like 1.25 cents or 1 cent or something per mile for travel which is pretty garbage.

Pretty much. You could still call them and tell them you don't want it so they don't bug you or something.

Not really, I have applied for almost a billion cards in the last 5 or 6 years and my credit is like top 1% in the universe. You could get dinged if you don't have long credit somewhere. Like your average age of credit is 3 months or something because you keep cancelling every card once you hit the spend and you don't have other long term credit accounts to balance it.

Locked down my sapphire bonus and almost have my Amex bonus.

Is there a no-brainier to pick up next for a big bonus? If not, I will just keep using the Sapphire for everything.

At first I didn't really appreciate how awesome the Sapphire is. It is close to making all other branded cards (eg a Delta card, American card, Marriott card) obsolete because of the double points on "travel." Add to that the flexibility of the UR points, and this thing is great (and the double points on dinning).

Apart from signup bonuses, you could make the argument that Sapphire is all you need. UR doesn't cover all airlines, and the Southwest conversion isn't as good IIRC, but man it's still very good.
