when i was in vegas one time. i thought i had lost my card (had actually just drunkenly put it in a weird different spot in my wallet) and called to have it canceled. they had to verify my most recent transactions which were a night club and a strip club in "las vegas, nevada". it was an elderly sounding lady and i was embarrassed.

OK.  I'm going on an anniversary trip in July.  I don't have a travel miles card thing because I don't travel all that much.  I've basically been ignoring this thread because I'm intimidated by it and I don't understand how any of it works but I've been researching and it seems like I could accumulate some decent points in the next 6 months.  Could someone tell me what to do to maximize points and could you explain it to me like I'm a five year old?  I have really good credit.

Coast of Maine, already have accommodations.  Staying in a cottage on the ocean near Bar Harbor.  Points would be mainly for flight/upgrades/rental car.  Anything else I can use them for?
