@stevedave award travel alert! Looking to PVR or SJD for 4 for spring break, April 6-10. Can be flexible on dates, but I can take a max of 5 work days off. Can fly out of SFO, OAK, or SJC. Does not necessarily need to be direct if I can have a quick connect in PHX or LA and get there while the sun's up. Keep in mind we want to do an all-inclusive so just doing a package and paying for it all may make sense.

I have approx: 200k UR, 100k Avios, 50k AAMiles, $800 United credit sitting around from a previously canceled trip.

yeah, either doing a package or using that united credit is probably your best bet

correct, but I know all inclusives deeply discount their rooms when booked as a package. and I know that  you have that $800 sitting there that isn't going to become more or less valuable no matter how hard I look. does United do package bookings? I know some airlines do. that's probably your best bet there because you could probably get the package advantages while spending that credit.

If you could stretch and extra vacation day you could do this
Quote
Outbound   Inbound   Total Price(Incl. all taxes fees and carrier charges)
06:007 Apr
OAK
Line image
13:407 Apr
PVR

14:5014 Apr
PVR
Line image
18:3514 Apr
OAK

72000 Avios + $ 82More pricing options(You will see exact cost after you click 'Continue')

or if you could leave as late as the 9th you could do this

Quote
Outbound   Inbound   Total Price(Incl. all taxes fees and carrier charges)
06:009 Apr
OAK
Line image
17:059 Apr
PVR

14:5014 Apr
PVR
Line image
18:3514 Apr
OAK

72000 Avios + $ 82More pricing options(You will see exact cost after you click 'Continue')

but qualifying flight days out of OAK to PVR are not available SAT/SUN/MON/THUR   (acutally 4/6 works, but 4/13 does not)

You could also fly SFO-PVR for the period 4/8-4/14 for 90k Avios +$82.  SJC is the same as OAK.  I mwill warn you the return flights for several dates on both OAK and SJC have only 4 seats remaining...

If it were me, I'd use Avios unless you have other short haul routes you want them for, and save the United $$$ for other trips since you fly out of a United spot.

We're ring shopping this weekend :gulp:. I wanna pay for it straight up when I get it, but if i'm a little short, I would like to put the rest on my card for points. My gf thinks that's dumb, cause interest, but what do you think @stevedave? This thing won't be purchased till July anyways and I know stores can do no interest for a year or something like that.

OAK-SJD
Availability on THURS, still no go for SAT/SUN/APRL13

Rates look to be the same for SJD as PVR.   A few more flights each day, so you sould arrive 2hrs earlier and depart a little later.

BTW I just realized I forgot to say all these quotes are for FIRST CLASS.   So there's that....Economy either not available or limited.

that could make for a very un-fun spring break.

but you should definitely put all of it on the card that you can pay off without paying any interest.

How long until you get married? Get some kind of plan where you have no interest for that long and then just use her money to pay it off once you are married (because then what's hers is yours).

Thanks to this thread, WMSis is now the proud owner of a SW Companion Pass. #blessed

In other news, I keep getting emails from USAir saying my miles are going to expire if I don't use them soon. There's no way for me to book an AA flight with them yet, is there? Would love to fly into MHK, but everything I've said says the miles won't change to AA until the second quarter of '15.

Finally, I need an Amex. What's an acceptable offer for Amex, or should I wait until a particularly good one comes out? I've seen 50k a bunch, but I'm not sure if that's worth it.
