just make sure that any non-airline or hotel card has had the points used unless you make sure they don't vanish.   Many, like URs disappear when you cancel if not used.

yes, assuming it is a card that goes poof.    IIRC URs can be kept by downgrading your card to a no-fee card, but then you can't transfer.

Actually I'm thinking of a spring bonefishing adventure on Great Exuma, or somewhere else in the Bahamas.  Delta flies to GGT.  Need to check where else they fly.  Have enough miles on Delta and United, not sure if United flies down there at all.  Not interested in Nassau in the least.

get an AA or USAir card. If Delta flys there it's seasonal only.

Delta does fly there during that time.  It's like 55,000 miles though (which seems high) and there are only two flights a week in/out (Sun and Wed).

Steve Dave, I am using some Hilton points for a b-day trip with Mrs. CF3 to Chicago, and saw you are going to stay at the Conrad. Do you think that's the best one within the Hilton family? Palmer House, The Drake, and Hilton Chicago all seem cool also, but I haven't stayed in any of them.

emo, looks like AA or USAir are the only carriers with regular service. I'll book you using those miles which I have shitloads of and you can transfer some of your new shitloads of UR points to my Hyatt or United account

Steve Dave, I am using some Hilton points for a b-day trip with Mrs. CF3 to Chicago, and saw you are going to stay at the Conrad. Do you think that's the best one within the Hilton family? Palmer House, The Drake, and Hilton Chicago all seem cool also, but I haven't stayed in any of them.

I actually just changed from the Conrad to the Wit. I would say those two are the best in downtown Chicago. I've not stayed at the drake but have been in it and it's just an old hotel with history and stuff but not really my style. I changed because I was able to book a large suite at the Wit for fewer points than a standard room at either the wit or conrad. they have specials like that when you are getting close to the arrival time so watch for those. I've stayed at the embassey suites lakeside which was fine and I know rick daris likes the embassey suites downtown fine as well. the thing about an embassey suites is that it's an embassey suites. they are all pretty good with getting a suite and getting free breakfast and afternoon drinks and stuff but none will be unique or what I would call romantic couple'y type places. if you are just looking for a place to sleep they would be a good option though. the wit is very unique. I would def. not stay at the Hilton Chicago.

11 months if you want to guarantee a reward ticket, check award availability throughout the year and see if it's a flight that would normally have availability later on or one you would need to book 11 months out. trans-atlantic reward availability is very difficult to come by on most carriers if you wait too long. not all routes are the same though.

they have an elite rooftop bar that there will be a line out the door and down the side of the building for on fridays and saturdays. you get to skip the line if you're staying there. nice lobby bar/rest asa well. birds chirp in the hallways during the day and owls hoot at night.

if you book first class you get basically an international biz class product and service though. pretty great perk if you can find availability. only SFO/LA to NYC gets that on most carriers.
