OK, I should probably already know this by now, but....Does SW only have a limited number of Rewards seats for each flight? If so, how many? Like, if I tell my friends (who will be flying with me) to get the SW card then book Rewards flights, am I going to screw myself out of getting a Reward flight if they book first?

no, but they could quit offering their lower rates if it fills up. and the amount of points you need for any SW flight is determined by how much the flight costs. you should just book ASAP. they are refundable anytime with no fees.

SW only allows booking 6 months out and the trip is next July.

Ok. Here's what I currently am working with, this is me and Mrs. CF3 combined:

100k Southwest Miles
100k American Airlines
50k Marriot
95K Chase UR
110k Hilton

I'll probably get a few new cards in the next 6 months.

What I'd like to do, is have both of us get the Chase Hyatt, and use the 4 free nights for our 10th Anniversary. Due to job/family constraints we don't get to travel very much. We'd like to do something tropical/beach, without traveling all the way to Greece or something. 5 or 6 nights is the most we could do. I was thinking Hawaii, but really I just want the best value for those Hyatt nights. I've been holding off on getting that card for a while. What say you?

Grand Hyatt Kauai or Andaz Maui are great uses of the Hyatt nights and points as well as those UR points.

We booked the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos for basically the same reason you mentioned plus it is a three hour direct flight. We basically narrowed it down to Paris, Kauai, and Cabo, and thought cabo would be the most stress free and close enough to the best value.

Actually, Mrs. looked at the reviews and websites for both cabo and Kauai and she chose cabo and so I did what she said.

Is there a time of the year that is best?

Not really. Little bigger waves on the north shores of the islands in the winter. That could be good or bad depending on what you want to do. Weather is essentially the same all year.  They say winter is the busier season because people want to escape the cold but if you are using points that won't matter to you.

Some people are getting a 55k with $2k spend and an authorized user, no annual fee first year UA offer at this link. I am getting it but some people on FT say they don't see it. second link shows ways to maybe get around it so you do see it.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase-ultimate-rewards/1330475-limited-availability-ua-mp-explorer-card-up-55k-miles-50-statement-credit.html

this, plus the chase churn news has thrown my carefully laid plans for a loop.  i was resolved to patience, but now i want to binge apply for everything, asap.

guys, I think I've come upon my second wind on this miles/points stuff. I was all in on it for years and then hit a 2'ish year bump in the road where I was kinda meh and now I'm back in 100%. let's all get rich.
I'm in a big slump right now, :frown: I churned and burned for awhile, I even read like 4 or 5 blogs consistently, but I probably haven't applied for a card in 6 months, this chase thing might get me back on the bandwagon though :excited:
I'm purple down

So wait, is this Ziva Los Cabos an all inclusive thing, and you can use the Hyatt nights for it?

Correct, it's all inclusive and you can use your Hyatt nights from the card

don't let it. I can give you a review of the grand hyatt kauai that would blow it out of the water even if it's amazing. use other info to determine what's best for your family.
