So would I have to do SFO-LAX and LAX-LHR as separate bookings and make sure it's on AA?

you can also look into partners like Aer Lingus or Air Berlin.

If you fly into Gatwick aren't fees a lot cheaper too?

Yeah, but nobody flys into gatwick. LHR does have fees but the majority of the fees I assume these guys are talking about are the $400'ish fuel surcharge fees BA charges. You will get $150'ish fees from anyone flying into LHR.

The best way to do it is find saver space on AA then call BA. Anything you find will be book able.

Yep, that is LHR fees each way. That is the airport charging and not the airline. LHR is an bad person.

Yes. But it takes a long time to get from CDG to the train station. CDG is in the sticks.

an all-AA metal itinerary was not available on BA's website. There's two daily BA LHR-SFO flights plus plenty of BA flights in LAX and DFW.

Yeah, that'll happen. The BA website will route you to any euro destination through LHR as well. Just ignore it and look on AA.com

but then how do you know the fees without calling?

Fees will be the same that they would on the AA booking

minus whatever minimal Avios fees and mileage differences going from point to point because it's mileage based

Also, when calling, BA will say that the flight isn't available. You have to tell them to STFU and that it is and give them the exact flight numbers sometimes.
