Also, regarding delta (and everyone else) devaluing their miles: if I run the same itinerary and change ONE of the legs to first class, it goes from 35k to like 67k

your 35k itinerary is indeed nuts. but, that itinerary with the longest leg in first would also be great at 67k imo. overall great booking here mocat.

I've only flown first class on an American MD-80 so I know it wasn't even real first class and it was amazing.  I've been getting AA main cabin extra the last couple times and it's worth the money if you're a long legged dude like myself.

domestic first is just convenient. international first is amazing. if you want to get your moneys worth on miles use all of them on international first or biz.

true story: a few years ago i was flying to London with the family and when we got to our seats there were people in them, turns out they had overbooked or some crap, so they put us in first class. 19 year old emawblast pounded champagne/wine and watched movies while reclined the entire way.

the one slightly goofy thing i had to with this itinerary is break up the 2 nights in NYC. so they are bookending the 5 nights in St Maarten.
So my 2 nights just showed up on my hyatt account, and what do you know? Park Hyatt is available 
so i decided to do 1 night there and 1 night at the Andaz 5th Ave. grand total of $0.00 charged to mocat

Yes it did!  sd's post reminded me to send my link to MIR and metalhead just now and it looks like we'll end up with $60 to use uber'n chicago next month.

btw, if any of you are planning an international delta trip, use this thing. it is invaluable, however it is buried on delta's website and i only found it a few weeks ago. you can pick one or two cities and see if/when there are nonstops using the calendar. it does not tell you price or miles tho. still very great.

for example, you can do the one airport thing and type in CDG and see where Delta flies nonstop from CDG

you can also do the two airport thing and type in MCI-LHR, and see that you have options for layovers in MSP, DTW, or ATL.

I used this to find out that Delta flies SXM-ATL weekly (saturdays), and SXM-JFK daily. It helped me plan my itinerary.
