I got the cap one venture x recently which fills a good spot while I await getting another sapphire. Might keep it long term for priority pass if I use that enough post-covid and get a CSP instead of a CSR.

I think that’s what we’ll do to. It’s basically a business ink type spend and bonus.

I'd first try doing better at getting an ink if they're still doing a 100K bonus.

Already got the Venture X. Mrs Nicname wants new carpet and fast. Agree tho, I like the simplicity of just having a crap ton of UR points.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

I don't like how on the venture x to get the $300 travel credit, you have to book it through their portal instead of just using the card wherever that's a travel category.  It shouldn't be too difficult to do that on flight purchases, but I haven't flown since pre-covid and don't have plans to.  Using it at independent hotels in road trip beach towns w/o points programs would work too but my favorite ones weren't in their portal when I looked.

i broke down and picked up a venture x too.  pretty much just for the lounges.  their travel portal is pretty bad - using that $300 credit is going to be a bit painful unless they improve it rapidly.

Just approved for Amex Platinum w/ Delta. Probably about time, and our recent corporate policy for field assignments means they give you more per diem, but you do travel on your own/don't book through corporate, so makes no sense to use the corporate card anymore, and might as well get all the sweet, sweet miles and bonuses with all my Canadian travels set to begin this summer.

Pretty excited, and also excited to not have to do a damn expense report anymore just to come home.

Still got my CSP, probably switch most my spending to Amex tho

Is the 5 free nights bonus for the Marriott card good? Seems better than the normal 75k-100k bonus but I have no idea. How do I know where I can use those? CC guru's plz help.

You have to maximize the use of them so they aren’t as flexible as just getting the equivalent points but I’d say they are worth like $1,500 if used fairly strategically.

My ideal use of them would be like the JW in NYC or an autograph collection AI in Jamaica. How do I even know if they would apply, I can't find any sort of points tier list? If those are more than the 50k points a night can I use the free nights + cash? Basically looking for the reason why I shouldn't snag this card.

I got that card/deal ago and it was pretty great. Didn’t use the nights as well as I wish I would have but did get a bunch of nights in Chicago when rooms were going for $300 plus, so I’d say Sd’s guess of 1.5k is accurate.

Yes I think you can use points plus cash. Just go to the Marriott site and search different hotels and dates. There isn’t a perfect list because the same hotel can vary depending on the day. Example- a westin in Chicago might be 55k on a Saturday and then only 40k on the Sunday.

Well I looked it up and the place I wanted to use it at was generally 70k a night so I asked the chatbot and it said free night certificates can not be used to partially pay for a room and you can only use 15k of your own points to go above the 50k redemption value so it seems like this thing is totally useless to me. Thank you sd/rd
