Micheal Gilmore and Devin Mitchell might be the two recruits we have to landed in this class. They are the two best kids that we are deep in the conversation with. Here is an order list of recruits we need to go after in priority.

1. Devin Mitchell G
2. Michael Gilmore F
3. Abdul Malik Abu F
4. Joe Burton G
5. Lourawls Nairn PG
6. Myles Turner POST
7. Matt Cimino F
SPRING 1: Darrick Wood G (JUCO)
SPRING 2: Kadeem Allen G (JUCO)

what an ass backwards list
Yea, because we shouldn't wasn't anytime recruiting kids we won't land.

RE: Troy Holston

247 Sports has him as a USF lean as of yesterday and today, and he's warm on Miami and USF.  He's "cool" on everyone else.

Which is consistent with what the poster said earlier in this thread, but we can just plan on moving on from this guy along with Mitchell.

Really upset on the Holston news and most likely Mitchell news. But, I don't think I should be because oscar seems to have a knack at doing well with what ever wing/wings he ends up with. But still sucks.

Wow oscar sucks at recruiting.  Just horrible.

I think oscar would have a really good basketball team if he could get a bunch of kids that are top 100-150 players. It doesn't look like he's capable of doing that though. So, we will suck until he's fired/retires. BTW, shouldn't it pretty easy for a coach who has been to the national championship game and just won the Big XII his first year in the conference to land some fringe top 150 players?

And can now sell one of the top if not top training facilities in the Big XII...

It should not be this hard for him.

2014 Basketball Recruiting - My Take (LONG!!)   Reply
Hello all! Since I can't seem to sleep, I decided to share a few thoughts on K-State's 2014 basketball recruiting. And judging the way people have reacted towards some prospects and their quick decisions, I felt the need to share a little of what I know. Looking at the current roster and judging the trends of what the staff is looking at, I think we all can kind of see where they are wanting to go. They want an oversized shooting guard that can really shoot the rock and two post guys (one more of a stretch-forward and the other a shot blocker/rebounder) to fill out immediate needs for the 2014-15 campaign and beyond.

From everything that we see in reference to Weber/staff quotes from other stories as well as things I've been told, Jevon Thomas is the point guard K-State wants for the future. They like his leadership abilities, incredibly explosive first step and the overall nature of his game. Thomas has the capacity to be the guy to lead the break and get it to the athletic wings on his sides. He's been in Manhattan for quite some time now and I'm under the impression it's done nothing but benefit him. But as far as him being eligible earlier than that mid-December timeframe, I just don't see it. I know he was enrolled in 12 hours as a mid-semester enrollee and likely had a full load (nine hours) this summer to keep everything on course, but I believe, and I could be wrong, that won't be enough credits to make him eligible just yet. However, if he is able to qualify early and plays, he will be the guy. If not, he will be the guy when he gets eligible.

With that said, K-State was never really after Larry Austin. Like hardly at all. In fact, I'm really surprised K-State was even in his top four to be honest. So it's not, "Oh, Weber really missed out on that guy." For one, they didn't pursue him that hard and secondly, if Thomas is the guy they want and are comfortable with, why go get another point guard for 2014 when someone like Sedrick Barefield (who is a stud) is on the radar for 2015?

The case of Devin Mitchell is a little different, but it has a similar ring to it. Both parties were high on each other early when Mitchell was at his peak and playing to an elite level. But Mitchell's stock dipped during the July live period. He told me no newer or bigger offers came and that he really didn't play well at all. So he decided to cut his list. My guess is he commits to Alabama today. It's unfortunate he couldn't come on that unofficial visit this summer and that he somewhat fizzled out of K-State's radar towards the end in favor of Troy Holston, but it is what it is. However, the fact Holston cut his list so quick is a little bit of a blow. The kid was dynamite playing with North Florida Elite and is well on his way to being ranked. Frankly, Holston will probably rank higher than Mitchell when this is all said in done. He played that well in July. Mitchell played a lot worse.

I could type for hours and hours on this stuff and what I think will happen, but I will stop here for now and will write more when some of the other guys starting cutting their lists down. I just wanted to clarify with Austin and Mitchell that it's not K-State necessarily whiffing on these kids. There's a lot more to the story. And one last quick note, the team this year is going to be freakishly athletic and far different than the past K-State teams.

You say this, but take a few moments to actually look at the man and drink in the total personality package.  There's only so much Chet, ABIII and Lowery can do.  The recruits have to meet oscar at some point.  They can sell the crap out of his achievements, but they still have to overcome the man himself.  The oscar 22.

Yup. But we need to give oscar time because recruiting kids to his system is hard when he doesn't have his kids already here (or some crap like that. the power-talking points run together on me)

From an article on Monday:

Quote from: oscar
We raised the level of expectations (here, too).  We got some national attention.  A year ago we were just trying to get involved with any recruit.  We’re involved with top-25 kids now.  A year ago they wouldn’t even take our phone call.  Now they’re taking our phone call and we might even get a kid or two on campus — a top, elite kid. We feel good about it.

Oh and from the same article cause oscar:

Quote from: oscar Weber, basketball historian/master of humbleness
"I had somebody when I was at Illinois, years later, say the worst thing I did was win too quick because now you raise the expectations,” Weber said, recalling that his second Illini squad went 37-2 and finished as the runner-up in the NCAA Tournament. “We won the most games in the history of the NCAA. No one’s ever done it again, and I don’t know if anyone ever will. It’s a fun thing."

Most victories in an NCAA Division I men's college basketball season:

38-2 - Kentucky, 2012, won championship

37-3 - Kansas, 2008, won championship

38-2 - Memphis, 2008, lost championship game

37-2 - Illinois 2005, lost championship game

37-2 - Duke 1999, lost championship game

37-2 - UNLV 1987, lost in semifinals

37-3 - Duke 1986, lost championship game

You want Gilmore, when the new rankings come out in July he will be on them. He would be a huge get and we have a 80% more chance to landing him then Turner. Turner is going to cut his list soon and it will be nice to know were he sits. Darrik Wood is the JUCO guy and I believe is a 3 for 3 guy and was a 4 star out of high school. Here is his rivals profile.

Quote

So that would be 2 four stars in the class with a couple more spots available. Abdul Malik Abu should remain the staffs top priority he is the one of the elite guys the staff really has a chance to land. Joe Burton also moves up on the list another 4 star rated player.

I know I have asked this before but has there been any official (or unofficial) confirmation of when Thomas will be eligible?  I was under the impression that eligibility at the end of the fall semester is not a given  :dunno:

How dangerous of a hike is that?  Mountain lions?  Steep blind cliffs?  Drug smuggling drop points?
