Honestly, Frank fed Jake to the dogs tonight.

Intentional?

Would be an awesome talking point. Frank had a master plan to put Jake on a clearly faster opponent to show him he's not as good as he thinks he is and motivate him to reach a higher level never before possible.

More likely he's just really rough ridin' stubborn.

Really would like to see local journalists call Frank out on this type of thing.  I'm sure none of them will ask the tough questions though.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

It's going to win him a lot more games than it losses him because you can count the number of point guards way faster/stronger than Jake on one hand. Of course, you tend to see them late in the tournament.

Good post. That's all true. It's these kind of games that it can bite us in the ass.

Good thought.  "Frank threw away our shot at #1 Duke to teach Jake a lifelong lesson."  Riot.

Yeah. That's why it was a joke.

wish we had two gears, one for tard teams that we can just bully around, and then  that second  gear that we would go into against teams with more talent that are smart and crap,
not sure what we would do against them but definitely not the pressure, deny, help late, foul thing.
it’s not like I’m tired of WINNING, but dude, let me catch my breath.

We're going to see one at least twice this season, and possibly a third time in Kansas City.

Didn't want to forget to give rusty a shoutout.  You pretty much nailed it.  That and Frank thinking it was a smart move to have Jake pressure Irving all night hurt as well.

Yep. Thought the same thing, basically, during the game. Would be nice.

I pretty much agree with everything you said.  I don't think Pullen's D was all that horrible - it was just obvious he was guarding a guy that was clearly out of his league talent-wise.  I agree that help D was especially bad when Irving drove - definitely worse than Pullen's defense.

not helping pullen was the strategy.  they didn't even attempt to.  rationale is that a contested shot by irving is better than an uncontested shot by whoever he passes to.

Martin and the staff were of the belief that Pullen would be able to stay side-by-side with Irving?

he was really good at d last year.  and it's not like irving was making uncontested layups.  he was making phenominal plays.

yep. sutton would've been raining so many threes that krsyski would've had to put on a poncho at 1/2 time. wouldn't be surprised if the old ball coach was behind the whole dom transfer stuff personally.

I think we knew going in that Irving was extremely fast and talented, but we didn't think he could consistently make the plays he made tonight.  Its hard to help b/c Duke spreads their offense out so much and still runs it well, something most college teams simply can't do.  But I really think our plan hinged on Irving making mistakes and not finishing nearly as often as he did when he did get by Pullen, which we knew he would.  And IMO Pullen getting shown up over and over by this kid was step one in frustrating him, long before missed shots did.

recall that pullen started on smith.  he wasn't shifted to irving until irving made russell look like a some 3 star with an offer from iowa.

and unranked, undersized marquette extended on d at least as aggressively as kstate and forced duke into 20+ turnovers and had a tie game with like 10 minutes left.

things to keep in mind for the black helicopter pullen lessoners and martin is stubbornites.

Duke played really well.  I'd almost say they brought their "A" game.

since this thread is titled hbbiq, i'll share what i do after games like this. i look at what percentage each team shot from "3" and then i switch them and come up with a new final score. boom. kstate just won. duke doesn't look so hot now, do they?
