if i was ned yost, i would handle this beltran stuff offline. as in, have ned call up carlos, "meet me at panera on the plaza (the nice one), in 10 minutes". but have ned get there early, spot the best table in the place, around the corner near the back, hard to see back there. ned has already ordered his food and it's sitting, waiting on carlos. once carlos orders and his pager goes off and he gets his food and sits down, before he's had a bite of his muffuletta, ned pulls out a check for $10,000,000. "carlos, that $10 million is yours, right now, $10M, 10 years, just sign this contract"
there's no way he wouldn't do it.
